Is my Acer Nplify 802.11a/g/n +BT 4.0 supporting WiFi 5

Hi,

Just got into this whole new thing with the generation shift on WiFi naming which is fine by me. Now I have a problem with figuring out if my slightly old Acer is supporting a minimum of WiFi 5. The reason for this is that I just got a new controller as a birthday gift, and in the store they got some information related to that this controller requires a WiFi 5 setup of 802.11ac... so now I looked at the wasteness of the internet to try and figure out what is what. And surprise surprise no real help.

Question in short is will the Acer Nplify 802.11a/g/n + BT 4.0 in my laptop support a connection with a 802.11ac (WiFi 5) device/dongle?

What's the controller? And I think you're asking if your old wifi adapter cardf will co-exist with another newer wifi dongle? If it doesn't, you simply remove the older card. E/NJ

All 802.11ac routers support connecting to computers using 802.11ac, .11n, .11g, .11b and .11a. You should be good to go, though the best speed is going to require an upgrade from the .11n (300Mbps max) to .11ac (depending on the router model is could be as high as 1200Mbps). What they might have been saying was the router supports 5GHz frequencies using .11ac. Those are where the extra speeds come in, though .11n also supports the 5GHz band. There isn't really a "WiFi 5" standard, they didn't start using that nomenclature until the new "WiFi 6" that supplants .11ac.
