Howdy,
Recently I bought a Kingston HyperX Impact Ram of 16GB DDR4-2666MHz. Is it suitable for my Predator Triton 300(PT315-51-75Q1) as my triton 300 already come with a 8GB DDR4-2666MHz inside. I mean can it both work OK since its a 8GB and a 16GB , but both DDR4.
Kindly help me out with this , appreciated !

  • Hi,
HyperX RAM is compatible with your laptop but you have to match the size to get the dual channel mode(either 2x8GB or 2x16GB), you also should pay attention to the CL value as well, however, adding more RAM will increase the performance, it may work, as you already have the module, install it and see how it goes.
If it doesn't work, you have to get another 8GB 2666MHz with same CL value as your current module or get another 16GB of Kingston HyperX Impact and replace the current 8GB module.
You can see it's compatible in this video description:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qCWh4UyfQU

@_Raymond0523 as @brummyfan2 stated you have to options here either get another 8gb to match your current or 8gb out and get 2x8gb hyperx this for 16gb for 32gb get 2x16 do not mix different sizes you wont  be working in dual channel i suggest you always get a read dual channel set from the same brand for best performance the lower cl the better hyperx is perfect for that i can also recommend vengeance its what i have right now

Hi , im the same person that asked this question but i have no idea why Acer need me to create another acc using the same email...  I watched that video before decided buying Triton 300 nice video btw =) . Back to the topic, what does "match the size to get dual channel" means , means like I have get the same 8GB DDR4-2666MHz with the same CL value or choose to use 2 HyperX 16GB DDR4-2666MHz in the other hand. Thanks alot for your reply.

Hi @xapim , dual channel means that it has to be two 8GB DDR4 or two 16GB DDR4 in order to be working in dual channel ? And also what does working in dual channel means. Appreciate your reply ! =)
  • Hi,
Yes,you can go for 2x8GB or 2x16GB set up, as I have said earlier, just install the module and see whether it works, if not either get a 8GB module(same specs, ie speed and CL vale) or get another 16GB module like the one you bought(HyperX 2666MHz CL=15). I have no clue about the other problem you have about creating another Account, I am just a member who uses Acer products and not working for Acer  =)

I agree with everyone else.  You should always try to use matching ram whenever possible.  Acer has an article on dual channel.

    https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1664/~/what-is-dual-channel-memory%3F

There are videos on youtube that test dual channel vs flex mode.  In this video, they tested a Ryzen desktop...and dual channel could typically (on average) give you an extra 1-2 FPS.  In other games there was no difference between dual channel and flex mode.  But, every mainboard is different so you should always try to use matching ram whenever possible....especially on a gaming laptop or gaming desktop.  The Ryzen desktop mainboard in the video did pretty well in flex mode, but your Intel laptop might not do as well....not sure.  Certain games like Battlefield V like more ram it seems....so occasionally, flex mode (more ram) is better than dual channel.

If you're just using your laptop or desktop for web surfing, it's not a big deal to run in flex mode.  Most gamers want every last possible FPS (frames per second)... so they want dual channel.  Flex mode won't give you bad performance though.  It's not an emergency to run out and get matching ram.  Flex mode and dual channel are ***usually*** pretty close.  Whenever you get around to it, I think you should buy another stick of matching HyperX.   But, if you never got around to it, I think you'd probably be fine too.

You can use userbenchmark to give you a general idea on how your ram is stacking up.

And lastly, the HyperX ram that you bought supports PlugNPlay auto overclocking.  But because you mixed it with your existing Industry Standard ram, it's ****unlikely**** that you'll be able to reap the rewards of PnP auto overclocking that the HyperX offers.

Note:  In the youtube video, I didn't understand a single word he said.  I just looked at the numbers.  ;)
Note2:  Everything I wrote is just my opinion and the videos on youtube are unscientific tests.

Sorry , I actually have one more question :#. After reading your reply , maybe i will consider using two HyperX 8GB DDR4-2666MHz and replace it with existing ram inside. If that is the case , do I need to change any setting inside my triton 300 or just plug in both HyperX 8GB DDR4-2666MHz ram and its good to go .

Right now, I think 8 GB + 8GB is fine.   But in 1-3 years, some games will probably recommend 32 GB of ram (in my opinion).   So I would go ahead and just go with 32 and be done.   32 GB should last the lifetime of the laptop.  But 16 GB total is currently fine.

You don't need to change any setting in the BIOS.  Yes, just plug it in.

Raymond0523 hyperx the lower CL the better i have vengeance now but it has a higher CL you wont notice it on 7th gen cpus anyway because it will only clock at 2400 but as i said the lower the cas latency the faster it is and i completely agree with @JordanB if your going to upgrade might as well go for 32gb because 16 its the bare minimum now :) also hyperx its not as expensive as it was when i got mine i paid almost £400 for a 32gb dual kit now u can get it for less than half of the price i paid check here and theres no point i n going more than 2666 because the probability of you mobo supporting it would be 1 in a million and the cpu would have to also support it :)
