ELAN I2C Filter Driver on Aspire 5 Model: 515-54G-70AG MFG Date: 2019/08/24 is far too sensitive and does not respond to changes in the sensitivity setting as described in the Acer manual and MSFT/Elan communities. Specially in Edge Windows10 1909 it is almost impossible to scroll my Favorites as websites will start without tapping or clicking. Any ideas. anyone?

When you say "is far too sensitive and does not respond to changes in the sensitivity setting as described in the Acer manual", does it mean that you tried to adjust here and couldn't?

Did you go to settings/devices/touchpad and change sensitivity there?

Yes that's what I meant and I set it to "Low Sensitivity" but it makes no difference (Low or High) I haven't checked the registry setting but assume it follows the Touchpad settings, is this the latest Elan driver version 13.6.14.1, Windows claims it is? It could be an Edge favorite scrolling issue (advanced setting smooth scrolling?) but I noticed it also in File Explorer when scrolling long lists it sometimes triggers the tap/click function.

  • Does the same problem remain when reinstalling windows, pressing alt + f10 before the Acer logo?

Nah, I don't want to go to that extreme, rather try to live with an over-sensitive scrolling touchpad.
    Thanks

Thanks Joe that seems to have fixed it, I also disabled "Smooth Scrolling" in advanced Internet settings (CPL).
I have now version16.1 instead of the older 14.2

    Continued.....
Tap once (as left click) is still very sensitive in Edge and I wonder if I can change the Elan gesture setting to Double Tap=Left click instead of one tap. It is probably my clumsy (stiff) fingers causing this sensitivity scrolling complaint as I have often the same problem on IPads/smart phones but the Elan driver updating did help a bit.

The issue I have with the Elan scrolling described in my original post and stopping it is called: accidental activation prevention (AAP) and is discussed in many forums like: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/141385-adjust-touchpad-sensitivity-windows-10-a.html
When I checked my AAP touchpad settings in the Windows10 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad I found this:

AAPThreshold is disabled which sets a tap delay (sensitivity) that I set to 3 (4=disabled).
So far no issues, scrolling is the same but no more accidental opening of files/URLS during scrolling......
I also read about the ASUS touchpad where one can swap the one finger one tap (execute) function with one finger two taps (select) in the settings and that would have done the job for me, unfortunately the Elan settings are not that flexible.

    Final post on this topic!
After trying out scrolling I restored AAPDisabled setting in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad and changed data from 0 (false) to 1 (true) but observed no changes in tap behavior. I will leave it like this. When checking the Touchpad settings in Windows it still has a 3 for sensitivity so maybe the registry key above is not active.:/

The latest elan mouse driver. Download, unzip, copy and paste to a new empty folder, device manager update using your own file and point the device manager to the newly created folder.
