memory/ram upgrade for Helios 500 PH517-51 (intel version)

Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade to the fastest mhz + CAS Latency ram possible for my Acer Helios 500 Predator PH517-51 and I'm a bit confused regarding how fast ram I can install.

It has 4 slots and a max of 64 gb.

i7-8750h intel datasheet, kingston and aida64 says max 2666 (2667) mhz

but crucial says max 3200 mhz
you have to press view more to see the 3200 etc.

I've read the thread about the amd version and his stats looks different, for him aida states max 3200 mhz etc.

I'm looking at these atm:
3200 mhz
or
2666 mhz

I've read that 'real' ram speed is mhz/cas latency, which for the fastest gives:
3200/18 = 177,8
or
2666/15 = 177,7
or in my old laptop with ddr3
1600/9 = 177,8

So 'same' 'same' ?
I don't know if this is a simplification of ram speed or maybe I missed something?

Before i bought my acer i looked at some clevo's and their max was either 32 gb 3200 mhz or 64 gb at 2666 mhz, so is this the same for acer or?

I prefer 32 gb faster ram over 64 gb slower.

I don't mind having to customize bios, xms etc. , but i won't jeopardize my laptop entirely , I need to be able to take it to a professional for repair if my trials fails :)

Brgds
Nick

    Hi MaClane
Thank you for your answer, I'm sure it was given with the best intentions, but there's nothing in your answer I haven't allready stated, besides that 64/4 = 16 gb per slot :)
I'm not looking for a cost-benifit of 2666 mhz vs. 3200 mhz., I'm only interested in if it's possible to run 3200 mhz or higher on my machine.

"fastest mhz + CAS Latency ram possible for my Acer Helios 500 Predator PH517-51"

Linus has some good videos about xmp and higher mhz vs. cost if the topics are of interest to you.

With xmp it should be possible to run faster ram than the 2666 mhz the cpu and chipset supports.

The screenshot you posted is wrong regarding 2400 mhz, both aida64 and intels specs for the cpu states 2666 mhz, and the ram installed when i bought the laptop runs at 2666 at this very moment.

FACT: if the processor does not support access at frequencies greater than 2666, you can run them at whatever frequency the final access will be limited by the processor, whether you want to or not.

    The information is not wrong.
It was taken from the service manual which has the RAM standard at 2400 for series, not for an EXACT model.

If your Bios has an XMP profile you can run RAM with over, but the final access will be the limit of the porcessador.

NickFury you cant run at 3200 in any laptop the bios are locked you would only be able to run xmp profiles on unlocked bios (not advisable its not allowed to talk about it on this community) plus you would void your warranty and there would be a chance to brick the laptop permanently if you dunno what youre doing and also depend on what the cpu supports as @MaClane stated above so all this said the max you can run its 2666 i recommend either hyperx or vengeance

Hi i have an Acer Predator Helios 500 PH517-51 it came with a built in 16 GB ram   and as you know it has 4 slots and caj be upgraded upto 64Gb  but as this is my first experience upgrading a laptop  so i just wanted to know  is it possible  that  i don't  touch the builtin 16gb ram attached under the motherboard on 2 slots as 8Gb  each and just  add a 32gb and 16 gb ram on the remaining  2 slots visible to me to upgrade it upto 64Gb ?  Secondly  i have a built in 256GB Nvme M.2 ssd   and a 1Tb HDD   . Can i upgrade my ssd  by attaching 2  1TB NVME M.2 SSD  and also replace my HDD with a 2TB 2.5' SSD ?  and how can i install my Windows 10 on the new NVME ssd ? plus which ssd in both Nvme and 2.5" models would you guys recommend .
