Spin3 - SP315-51-37E7 Will not reset

All, I have a Spin3. It started dropping and rebooting about 6 months ago. It's out past the warranty. So I followed the directions given and have factory reset 3 different times with no luck. It would always drop after a short while. The BSOD error range from memory to video. Then I decided to install Kubuntu Linux. I wanted to see if I have a hardware issue or software so went to Legacy mode and installed. It has worked like a champ for the last few months. Because it's the wife's machine I changed back to IUEF (or whatever it's called) mode tried to reinstall Windows though factory reset. It won't. I've reformatted the partition from Windows boot manager's command prompt to get rid of linux and the ext2 format. I still get "Can't reset" error after a few second. Any idea what the issue might be? Thanks

Can you provide the exact model? Example SF314-51-58VH.

If you want to install in uefi mode, I suggest that you disable secureboot by creating a password on setsupervisorpassword. In addition, you must convert the pendrive to gpt and use an x64 iso:

Thanks egydiocoelho . I forgot about diskpart. I was trying to work with fdisk which isn't there anymore. I wasn't necessarily trying to use uefi mode, it's just the default with the machine. I set everything back to factory defaults, thinking it would reset properly.

I will try your recommendations once I get back in front of the laptop this afternoon. My question now is, why would I need to use an ISO pendrive. Wouldn't the data be on the reset partition already? I can make a bootable pendrive but how would I get an ISO of the reset partition?

Thanks. That got me closer. I can install Windows from the jump drive but I'd have to set up a Microsoft account. And when I restarted and went back to troubleshooting, my factory reset isn't there anymore. While I'm not much on bloatware, I would like to have the Acer software and drivers that came with the laptop.

I don't want to sound ungrateful. You have been a big help, but is there anyway to do a factory reset or is that option long gone? Thanks again.

Did you format the hdd at some point? If you didn't, erecovery may still work. Just activate d2drecovery in the bios and then press alt + f10 before the Acer logo.

Well I got it fixed. I did format the drive but not the recovery partition. In any case, for those following along at home, I used your link and created a Windows installation USB. During installation I told it I didn't have internet so I wouldn't have to create a Microsoft account to proceed. Once installed, I used Windows to do a reset. It took a 3-4 hours and appeared to be coming from the recovery partition, since I didn't have the USB plugged up. Once complete I had all of windows but none of the Acer drivers or Acer Care software. I downloaded the drivers and installed and just decided not to worry or chase the Acer software. Seems to be working to this point. Thanks again for all the help.

I did not back up the computer. My experience with reset or recovery partitions has been with HP and Toshiba. Neither of which require I back up the reset partition. I can’t even access the software on the reset partition. As a result, I did not know to back up the reset partition. I thought the idea of a reset partition was to be able to put the computer back to factory conditions if the C:\ Drive became compromised. In any case, I can’t get the reset partition to put the computer back to factory status but I have the laptop working now as I explained earlier. I’ll just go with that. Unfortunately I haven’t used it enough to know if the BSOD will pop up again or if it’s gone for good.
