I have an Aspire ES 15. In trying, unsuccessfully, to install an external mic I have somehow managed to switch on the onboard mic permanently, which plays back about an eighth of a second later through the speakers. I am out of all programmes and just in my desktop yet still it persists. What have I done???

Right click speaker icon in tray. Click recording devices. Do you see the external mic listed when it's either plugged in or paired? Jack E/NJ

    Hi JackE/NJ

Right clicking on the speaker icon gives me the option to Open Sound Settings. There is no reference to Recording Devices. Opening Sound Settings gets me to the Sound page where, under 'input' I can click  'Mic Realtek etc' but that does nothing useful. Under 'Questions' on the same page is the option 'Setting up a mic' but this refers me straight back to 'Right click Speaker icon, which takes me full circle. In case you wonder I am using Windows 10.

Thanks for your interest. Any other thoughts will be gratefully received.

Click settings in the Windows icon start menu. Search 'sound'. Click manage audio devices in left pane, Click recording tab. What do you see? Jack E/NJ

      Hi JackE

Have worked through and beyond your recommendations and seem to have sorted it out.

      Many thanks again.
