Aspire 9420 does not see SSD - I updated the BIOS to the latest version I could find

Hello Everyone,

New user here, and I have a problem that I'm unable to figure out. I just bought a Kingston 120 GB SSD to replace the old HDD in my Aspire 9420, but it does not seem to be able to find the drive. I cloned the old hdd to the ssd but when I replace it, it does not start. It spends about 1 minute in the <press F2 to enter setup> screen, then moves to the Realtec Ethernet boot to get an IP adress, and then says "Operating system not found". When I actually go into the BIOS, it says IDE1 Model name: None and IDE1 Serial Number: 10 times the "@" sign (if I put it here 10 times it somehow screws up the forum post). I updated the BIOS to the latest version I could find: 1.24

I'm not 100% sure if the cloning worked, but when I connect the ssd to the laptop via an USB->SATA interface, it actually boots but the laptop crashes with a blue screen error after the windows 7 startup logo, so there's at least something on the drive. Unfortunately I can't read the blue screen since it's only there for a fraction of a second before it reboots.

I've replaced HDDs with SSDs in the past, but this is the first time I'm unable to get it to work. Maybe there's something I'm overlooking, so any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

I just now realized I put this question in the wrong sub-forum, it should be in legacy laptops. Can I mod move it for me, or can I post it again in the other sub-forum? Don't want to double post.

    Thanks
