Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire 5738G that works with a core 2 due t6600 processor and I want to upgrade the processor to the core 2 Quad Q9100, both processors work with the pga478 socket, but I do not know the compatibility of the Quad processor with the motherboard in terms of the motherboard chip and its maximum frequency, as well as the cooling system and power supply to the processor and the most important is  BIOS SN: LXPEX01002XXXX laptop. Thank you

Where are specialists in acer devices and site supervisors? I want to buy the processor and I am afraid it will not be compatible with the laptop .... Please interact with the question.
  • Hi,
No, it's not compatible with this model, main reason I think there's no BIOS support for this CPU , then the TDP values are different and thirdly nobody has done it yet, yes, as you have said physically it will fit in the socket but will not work, T6600 is the maximum others have installed.

Are you sure that the BIOS does not support this processor?  The increase is only 15w TDP?  From experience or guess?
  • Hi,
The BIOS was for Core 2 Duo CPUs and not for Quad core CPUs, recommended CPUs also didn't include any Quadcore CPUs, no I haven't done this upgrade, so it's not from my experience.

If you want to talk to Acer Support Specialists you are in the wrong place, we are a community of users just like you who are trying to help each other by sharing our knowledge, we do not work for Acer. To talk to Acer go to your countries Official Acer support site

Thank you ... I found a Q9100 processor at a low price of $ 20 and since no one tried this upgrade I will try it for a small amount and it is worth it if it works, it will be beautiful and if it does not work out, others benefit from this experience Thank you again and I will reply to you after the experience

    Ok ...i know that
    Thank you

@Mohammed83 I'm sorry my friend but the processor in your laptop is NOT upgradeable it is soldered to the Motherboard and is not a user upgradeable item. Only Harddrives and RAM are user upgradeable in a laptop. Unless of course you are a Computer Technician

    Hi,
You seemed to know what you are doing, I was very cautious about the upgrade and glad you are willing to experiment, you might succeed and good luck with your upgrade  :)

Thanks ... I know that upgrading the processor depends on several things, the socket, the chip, the power of the cooling unit and the BIOS as wellandylb said:

No ... the processor is installed on the pga478 socket and is not soldered directly into the motherboard
    Thank you

I am interested in that as well. I recently got my hands on the same laptop and would appreciate it if you post your findings here!

Hi there,, I'm sorry, was that question mark intentional ? were you asking if he did it or were you stating that you did manage to install the q9100 on an acer 5738 ?
And if so, if you did manage to install a q9100 on an acer 5738 .. could you please tell us what you had to do to make it work ?
    Thanks
