Gamma on my X35 is a bit off, around 1.9 instead of 2.2. I've checked it with http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gamma_calibration.php also it's mentioned in this review https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/acer-x35/ This causes the image to be a bit washed out. It's quite visible on some youtube videos with black levels showing a lot of gradient noise, or whatever the term is.

I can change gamma to +0.3 in OSD, which solves the problem, but gamma controls are disabled in HDR and games ignore nvidia gamma correction, so there doesn't seem to be a way to apply this for HDR.

Is this normal for this monitor? is it set to 1.9 for some reason? or is it just bad on my monitor, or is there a way to fix this for HDR?

I found this in Metro exodus, the dark looked too grey. I used a certain Nvidia filter with HDR on to alter the values so that the black was black and not grey.

That issue is specific to Metro. It's a bit messed up, with some scenes being very grey. There's a gamma slider in the game which makes it better, but I think it's just a really poor HDR implementation or level design. 1.9 and 2.2 gamma difference is a bit more nuanced, with games generally looking fine.
