PH315-52 VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR And Black Screen After Game Crash
Hi everyone,
Would anyone please help me as I'm going crazy having tried many different solutions to my problem?
In brief, this problem started about a week ago when I started a Dota 2 game as usual. After selecting the heroes, there is normally a cutscene during which the game loads resources. As soon as the cutscene ends, the game begins. At this moment, my desktop came up, however I could still see my ingame mouse/cursor and not the Windows cursor. Also, I could hear in-game sounds, but I couldn't see anything but my desktop. I could open/run any other applications, but I could not bring the game back up with Alt-Tab or any other methods. I used task manager to kill the process and start the game again, but then I received the following message " "Unable to find a valid Direct3d device. Check that your graphics driver is working properly." I could not run any other Steam games such as CSGO or older ones like GTA3, VC etc. They just would not load at all without any errors. Seems like Dota corrupted my video card somehow and all games would refuse to load.
At that stage, I had all latest drivers installed and Windows updates. I check these things twice a day every single day - morning and evening (control freak!). It is impossible for anything not to be updated. But hey, OK I checked everything and yes what a surprise, I have the latest drivers for all my hardware and software. So I decided to restart my laptop and try again. I received a BSOD saying VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR. After that screen went out, my laptop restarted but I did not see the usual Predator logo at boot and the screen was completely black. The keyboard was lit, meaning that the machine was running (I could hear the fans as well). The only solution that worked was to force a shut down using the power button, leave the laptop off for 5 seconds and start it again. I could then boot as normal. So basically, I've had this game crash many, many times over the past week and I always have to follow this long process to get back into Windows normally. After this restart process is completed, I can run other games. I tested CSGO and GTA (as mentioned above), and I can run them at 200-300 fps without any issues.
I then went to remove the drivers using DDU via safe mode and all that, but the problem still remains. The most bizarre thing is that it is inconsistent. Sometimes, the game does not crash, but often times it does. Sometimes, I was able to play several Dota 2 games without any issues, then do something Windows related and then run it again and it works again. But then, out of the blue the game can crash. I fail to see a pattern in these crashes to be honest - maybe someone could help me out here? As I am writing this, I've had three consecutive crashes so I have been unable to play at all to test whether it is still an intermittent error or not.
I even did a complete clean install of Windows and used the same version as I had on the laptop when I bought it for Black Friday 2 months ago, hoping that maybe it was a Windows and Nvidia problem. No, the problem persists. I updated everything to the latest updates and drivers (where I was before the clean install). Problem persists.
I did a userbenchmark test and everything seems OK. I ran Furmark for 10 minutes and no BSOD, no stuttering, no crashes, nothing.
What can be the reason for these crashes and black screens after restarting?
Thank you anyone for your kind help!
