I have an Acer Aspire V17 that (I believe) has a 135W power supply.  I can pretty much never use this on airplanes, assuming because the wattage is too high.

Is there a lower watt power supply that I could use that won't cause problems with the laptop?  I expect it won't be able to keep up and eventually the battery will drain if I have the laptop on full time, but right now I get 2-2.5 hrs on a full battery and that is it, so any help from the airplane AC power would be nice.

You could probably use a lower wattage adapter but as you say it will take longer to charge. My model comes with a 135w adapter but I use a Targus 95w for travelling and it does just fine, I always start off with a full battery so it is just trickle charging. Below is the official spec for your model
