This is a new problem with this computer.  It came from the factory with Windows 7, and last month I installed a brand new SSD and did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro.  We could connect to the LG TV with no trouble using Windows 7.  Yesterday was the first time we connected to the TV since updating to Windows 10, wanting to watch something from Prime. The TV started showing the duplicated screen, and after a couple minutes, the LG TV went blank and then started showing "No signal".  Checked and rechecked the cables, looked at the display settings a number of times and everything looks right. As a shot in the dark, went to update the video driver and got the message that the best driver is already in use.  I connected the VGA port to the LG TV using a VGA to HDMI converter, and the TV shows the display just fine. (This laptop has both VGA and HDMI ports).  Looking for clues and suggestions.

Uninstall the display adapter in Device Manager. Exit Device Manager without re-installing anything. Shut down. Turn machine back on. Try HDMI out again. Jack E/NJ

I long ago came to the realization that there will be many things I encounter that I will never understand.  This is one of them.  So far, after 2 re-starts, this seems to have corrected the behavior. Can you explain why this was needed?

The DeviceManager driver likely got corrupted from who knows what. By uninstalling it, then re-booting, Windows auto re-detects the adapter and auto installs a fresh copy of its driver that's stored elsewhere on your boot drive. Jack E/NJ

This is becoming more confusing.  Yesterday I thought the problem was solved.  Today it is back.  The LG TV displays the duplicated screen for a while,  2 or 3 minutes, and then goes blank, and then shows "No connection".  Windows identifies the duplicated display as "LG TV", and describes it as a "Generic PnP Monitor".  Using the shortcut of windows key + P brings up the display selection.  Selecting the external display only shuts off the laptop display, but the "No signal" message remains on the TV.  Cycling the TV power gets it acknowledged again by the laptop, but the "No signal" message reappears immediately.  Looking for suggestions again.

Open ControlPanel. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore point' in the left pane. Click 'system restore' button in the box that pops up. Click 'next;. Do you see any restore points with a date or time stamp in the last few days? Jack E/NJ
