Greetings,

I purchased the Acer Predator 300 Helios (G3-571-77HQ) in April 2018, through amazon.com.

It worked perfectly, so far- Unfortunately, not any more.  I have a big problem with the NVIDIA GTX 1060 6Gb DDR5 graphics card.

When I start any game, the screen freezes after the game has finished loading.

For example World of Tanks freezes after I log in and open the garage with my tanks.

CoD Modern Warfare (old original MW, not this new one) freezes when I start training mode. Both games are old and well below GTX 1060 capabilities.

I have successfully run Crash Bandicoot ´Nsane Trilogy, but it runs on an Intel 630 on board graphics card.

I´ve checked through "dxdiag" and it say all correct. Also the same in device manager. Finally I´ve run Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0 (Basic Edition). During the test, screen was switching into black every second (like it switched off, but it was just turn into black), while sound of testing music was continuous and regular.

I tried installing older drivers, it didn't help. I requested an update of all drivers and windows, but it didn't help. I ended up doing System Restore and reset the laptop to factory settings, however I still have the same problem. I don't know if the malfunction is software or hardware.

I would note that the laptop was used all the time according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Is there anything else I can try, or will I have to send my laptop to service? At first I thought it was some kind of error with drivers or software. Now it seems to me the graphics card is done, but I hope I'm wrong.

PS

Sorry for bad english. I hope You´ll understand it.

This suggests either hardware issue or overheating. Have you monitored temps? Jack E/NJ

If you did a full erase-everything factory reset and got the same result, then it's a likely hardware issue. Arrange for ACER warranty repair service here https://www.acer.com/ac/hr/HR/content/support

Sort of. 10 years ago I had problem  with Acer Extensa lcd flat cable. Repair man in Croatia told me it is not part of warranty and was asking about 50$ to fix it. I've refused his offer, bought same cable on ebay for approx. 10$ and replace it by my own. Few months later I got info it  was serial problerm on that model. As a matter in fact, one of my frends had same laptop and same problem.
And to be honest, it is not problem with Acer services exclusive. Asus service in Croatia does the same. Other companies too.

Acer repairers are not a problem. The problem is the mentality of Croatian service technicians globally

Maybe it will be better this time. The 1060 chip failure is serious since it's soldered to the mainboard. Sometimes a solder reflow will fix it. But ACER service will probably replace the mainboard. Jack E/NJ

Hope You're right. I got 5 laptops in my home, Asus, Acer, Samsung,... Somehow, this Predator has took my choice in front of Asus  ROG and became my favourite tool/toy. I'll be glad to use it in next 2 years, till I purchase some new Predator. 😊

Yep, I know what do you mean and I am sure you're right, but I've seen something confusing me on acer/hr page.

Errr, this has gone way to far. My post is about what my Predator suffers, and what I did to solve it. I was currious, is there anything more I can do before call the service?

@NJ_RAMS_FAN no they havent they only have 2 year warranty in US/CA and for the 2017/18 models the 2019 its 1 year only the warranty depends on each countri and in the EU its only 1 year in service (ITW) International Travelers Warranty if you want more you have to buy extended warranty like i did Devilthorn you only have 1 year ITW thats it :) this means your laptop its way out of warranty by now ended April last year you can still asc acer for a quote (wont be cheap as its your GPU probably a new mobo) i would try to find a donor mobo and replace it but always expect at least 500/600+ usd for a used one this is what you should be looking for the 571/572/573 all share the same mobo as its the same SG for all 3 variants

You could also see if this has something to do with thermals (which probably wont) have you tried a stock recovery clean install or a battery power drain ??

@xapim my laptop has been bought through amazon.com and delivered in USA adress. If I type my serial/snid on acer.us/ca, it shows me 2 yrs warranty. But, I live in Croatia and I don't know which warranty regulations to follow.

Devilthorn you have to contact acer directly to find out but i suppose they will rule your own country or residence warranty policy as first but anyway just contact them directly as everyone tries to do the same importing it from US because its cheaper and avoiding the your own country customs/tax thats not good at all and i wont say more about this seems to me you imported it illegally you best (probably only option here) would be to send it to the US address to where you sent amazon to deliver it and they can sort out the warranty from there if acer will still accept it hope they dont read this :)

@xapim I've tried a full recovery though Acer Care, means it erased all my apps and data and reinstall the windows. I haven't tried battery drain yet.

Devilthorn Oh so you have moved back but you should had contacted acer about your warranty before you had left as might be too late now but just give it a try only they will be able to let you know what will happen now i just mentioned it because many ppl do that to avoid tax customs etc... as you know in  the EU everything is twice more expensive :) i bough mine at about same time as you in the UK and one month before my ITW was due to expire i bought extended warranty
