Hello! I've got the Acer Nitro 5 with a  GTX 1050ti and I5-8300H (Purchased early last year) and have recently noticed that when playing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the CPU temperatures have been dangerously high (Tends to go between 90-98c). I've attempted undervolting, raising it up, getting the fans to run at max speed, changing power plans, and none of it has worked. I've noticed that it gets cooler when unplugged, but the game FPS also drops way too low for it to be playable so that's not a solution. Any advice?

@andylb You mean undervolting? I've already tried doing that, no matter what I set it too the temperatures either didn't change at all or dropped around 10 degrees for the first 20 minutes of play before climbing back up. Is there a way I can get the laptop repasted by someone else? Acer Support, Geek Squad, or someone else?

Undercoating lol, *** spellcheck. Yes any local PC repair shop will do it. I wouldn't use Acer, although I am brand loyal, bad pasting has been an issue, also with a repair shop you can take them the paste you want and just pay for labor. Buy Grizzly Kryonaut from Amazon

    Good Morning CrazyCaps !

And did you realize if only extreme warming occurs in this game or in others as well?

@MaClane It also happens in other intense games such as Nier: Automata and Doom 2016, and anything that uses the CPU extensively. I listed Jedi: Fallen Order because it was where I first noticed it.

Hi, sorry to hear about your issue. Find the information regarding the temperature of the unit below.

Nitro products are engineered to withstand higher operating temperatures than traditional notebooks. These systems include features that help with cooling and heat dispersion. The CPU and GPU are designed to handle temperature spikes in excess of 98 degrees Celsius without causing damage to the components. It is common for PC temperatures to spike temporarily during heavy gaming or graphic usage. If the system encounters excessive temperatures that could damage the hardware, it will automatically shut down to protect the components from becoming damaged.

If in case if the unit is still hot, you can contact the Acer Support and they will help you. Check the link below and choose your location and contact the support in your location.

This temperature is not suitable for the equipment, even because the safe maximum TDP of this processor is 100ºC.
I suggest you upgrade all drivers and Windows and do the test.
Some versions of defective drivers or patches may cause overheating.

@MaClane I agree that this temperature is too high and it has gotten way too close to 100 for comfort. I have double checked and the only driver that wasn't up to date was for my 1050TI. Updating it didn't fix the issue.

Have you also updated Intel HD Graphics?

I suggest you back up your data and files and reinstall the OEM system and do a test before you upgrade anything.

@MaClaneI have way too much data to backup for this to be feasible for me.

Check your GPU setup using my walkthrough below. If that doesn't work I would repaste the CPU and GPU with Grizzly Kryonaut, video link below
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vfoUkIazNA&t=63s

Have you set up the Nvidia Control Center correctly? Please follow all my instructions below

Please click YES if I answer your question, thankyou

Make sure you do this below and always game on 100% battery BEFORE gaming and KEEP plugged in while gaming, in your Windows Power plan select High Performance when on AC and in Nitrosense make sure High performance is selected under "AC" tab

    1. Download and install the latest Nvidia drivers from here
    https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx

    2. Go to the Nvidia control center and click Manage 3d settings tab, then click the Global Settings tab and change Preferred Graphics processor from Auto select to your Nvidia GPU, do this by clicking the downward arrow to the right of Auto Select and select the Nvidia GPU. Then under the Program Settings tab select the programs and games that you want to run on the Nvidia GPU. Do the same under the Set PhysX Configuration tab

@andylb Thanks for the advice, I've messed with the control panel and followed your instructions and the issue is still present. I'm not sure that I'm confident enough to repaste the CPU myself though, is there another way for me to have that done?

@CrazyCaps in that case try undercoating a little using Throttlestop, you have do it a little at a time until you find the sweet spot
