Looking for 16 gb RAM sticks (2x8 or 1x16) for my laptop, preferably dual channel since my laptop has a ryzen chipset. What RAM would work on this laptop?

When looking for new RAM check 2 things:
    • The one you already have installed, it's a good indicative of what the system is made to have.
    • The specs of the processor it has, in this case it's a 2nd gen Ryzen 5, 2500U. There you'll see what kind of memory its controller supports and expects (without overclocking) and you'll know what to buy.
For you it's DDR4-2400 also known as PC4-19200 in SO-DIMM form factor and that processor supports a maximum of 32GB. If you're looking at getting Dual Channel (the processor supports it and I think you have 2 slots too) get a matched memory pair, you know those that come with 2 sticks in the box already instead of buying 2 individual sticks. It's sometimes hard to get 2 modules to work in dual channel even if they're the same model.

I don't know how overclocking the memory clocks would work (if at all) in Acer laptop, so I'm guessing 2400 MHz is going to be the effective clock speed you'll get, but if you can find cheaper 2666 MHz memory or even 3200 MHz go for it if you want to save a few bucks; they generally have profiles for lower clock speed in the SPD, they'd be able to run at 2400 MHz most likely without you needing to do anything else.

Yep, ticks all of the boxes, ensure you have 2 slots for RAM though, I now some laptops only have 1 (like mine) and some have part of the RAM soldered on (unfortunately).

After the RAM is changed the first boot may be longer until you see the Acer logo onscreen, I think it's because it probes the memory to see if it works or something, but then business as usual ;).
