Yes, I have read previous threads, but I was asked to create a new thread by a mod.
I wanted to see if anyone had any luck installing an nvme SSD in the M.2 port on the R5-571t-59c.
From what I gather, this model has a SATA M.2, vs a PCIe/nvme M,2 port, despite only having the M Key notch on the port, ie. nvme.
I learned this the hard way, after purchasing a 500GB Samsung Evo 970 M.2 SSD (nvme.) I then read the other threads afterwards, in which some R5-571t users got an nvme to be recognized. But, not able to use it as a boot drive, as the BIOS won't detect an m.2 drive [without a custom BIOS?]
That being said, different users had different levels of luck as to what they were able to accomplish. And it was never really spelled out which r5-571t models were capable of what, with lots of mixed messages and levels of luck.
Based on comments from other threads, I have already formatted the drive using a USB external m.2 enclosure that I purchased the day after failing. However, HWinfo will not even detect the drive when in the m.2 port, which conflicts with
what other r5-571t users have been able to achieve with nvme drives.
So...
1) I wanted to see if anyone was able to get their r5-571t-59c to detect an nvme (yes, I know I won't get nvme speeds, and it'll be limited to 8GT/s, ie. 985MB/s. Which is still faster than, 6Gbps SATA, ie 750MB/s)
Any PCIe detection would make me happy at this point.
2) If you got nvme to be recognized in some way, shape or form, what did you do to enable this? ie. cloning the driver, editing the BIOS, etc.
3)Any other info you guys can provide. I can still return the drive for another 3-4 days, but figured I'd give it 1 last hail mary.
(I paid $64 for it, which is cheaper than the Samsung Evo 860 m.2 (SATA), via a multi-step staples deal. Besides wanting to harness the nvme speed in a future computer, down the line)
