My Acer laptop is 3 months out of warranty. I called Acer support today because I was having a keyboard issue. The laptop was functional but some of the keys were repeating and not working sometimes. Acer support guided me to reset the laptop pushing a pin into the pinhole at the back and now my laptop is not powering at all. Not charging either. This is horrible at I had a lot of important documents, picture that can not be replaced.
After support successfully guided me to completely bricked this laptop. They shamelessly asked $1000 + tax + shipping to handle the issue. This is completely unacceptable.

EricDalli Thats the exact procedure to take when theres an issue you have to follow this for a battery power drain press/hold the pinhole for 30s+ let the laptop rest for 2/3h then boot into bios to reset setup to defaults also please state the full model of your laptop and you didnt lost anything even if you cant boot it you can remove the drives and use them via usb adapters in any other device to recover all your data you only loose something when a drive fails/dies and its also normal that they ask a fee to fix/diagnose devices out of warranty no one works for free thats why we have warranty and everyone should in my view always buy extended warranty when investing in any (expensive) gaming laptop :)

Complete failure of Acer Predator Helios 500 after 15 months.

    We purchased a Acer Predator Helios 500 17.3in Intel i7-GTX 1070 (PT715-51) from Currys/PC World in Aug 2018 for £1803.

In Oct 2019 it simply failed to boot up correctly (blank screen) and it was returned to Acer for repair. Acer reported that it needed a new motherboard and quoted £1800 which I refused.

Pretty disgusted with Acer as I now have a brick as the repair cost is equal to a new machine. It would appear to be a graphics issue as the "led" sequence is normal but there is no screen output.

What would be the best course of action given that Acer have completely let me down?

    Would welcome any input.

landrovercounty you can try to find a used donor mobo but even that would probably cost you £500+ the most expensive part of any laptops its always its heart try aliexpress for ex or you can take it to a repair shop and see what they say but i doubt they would give you a much lower quote than the one acer gave you and as always i advise everyone who invest in a gam,ing laptops or any other expensive device to take extended warranty with the manufacturer because its not £60 more for 2 extra years that would make any difference and its well worth it in these cases :) and this has to be taken at least 1 month before the normal i year ITW expires here is the mobo part number (may differ from country to country and gpu specs this is probably the US but its at least a start)
