Hey guys, just want to asks a for help here.

I have an old acer predator, the model is g9-792, 16gb 970m. The battery doesn't work anymore so i have to use the power adapter always or it will not open.

My problem started earlier, when my predator shutdown by itself. I turned on the laptop and it just restarting randomly when its on predator logo in bios, or in windows. I tried to format, installed a new windows but it is still the same.

I noticed that the Laptop isn't restarting when i am on the installation of windows, but after finish installing the windows , the problem is there again.

PS: I installed the windows on the external harddrive, thinking that the main ssd drive is the culprit of restarting. At first it works fine, but then when i installed predator sense and checked the maximum fan speed, it restarts again. I already changed the thermal paste, bios is on date i think also.

I gave some rest on the laptop for a few hours, and its not restarting but after a few minutes it will just restarts again.

mstyle028 you need the battery to be working the adapter cannot provide enough power to the cpu/gpu when these ask for more and will make the OS crash i suggest you to replace your battery if its out of warranty get hwinfo and get your battery model number and try to find one
Here is the battery part number for your model

    Thanks for the reply!

I didnt know that it is not okay to leave the battery dead. It just didnt work suddenly for about like almost a year and i just left it like that since i have a desktop already. I think that is why the laptop doesnt seem fast like it was, i thought its just the thermal paste issue.

My niece been using the laptop for a year with the battery dead, Its still plugged in but the battery recharge stays at 0 percent. Suddenly last night, the predator shuts down by itself, then we turn back on and its just restarting randomly. My guess is the SSD drive since its not reading anymore, i am using the external hdd atm, it still restarts but not frequently.

    Update:

Still using the external hdd as my main drive, it hasnt been restarting for like 4 hours already. Earlier it only restarted once.

Still thinking if the ssd is the main issue since it doesnt read anymore in the windows, but in bios it shows.

After loading a dota 2 game, restarting happens again frequently even it is still on the windows logging in, temperature is still at 60 so not sure if its overheating, sigh*. still dont know what is the cause of shutting down and restarting.

Try a factory reset. If that doesn't backup and then clean install using Microsoft's ISO. Also, replace the faulty battery with new one.

I tried using factory reset before, but it didnt work and gave me some errors, so what I did was just clean install a windows with a bootable windows usb. SO right now what i am using is the external hard drive just to see if the main ssd is the culprit of restarting.

With the battery dead can cause of random restart? It was been like that for about a year and the restarts only happened like 4 days ago

Quite possible. Your adaptor may not be able to provide enough power. Battery complements the AC.

Bad news, i got the battery just now, and after plugging it in, battery is working fine, it is charging, and its opening the power without the adapter.

After plugging it, it cant even load into the windows anymore, its just restarting after loading windows pops up, or it stuck ad the predator logo only then restarts.

I can't even install/load a bootable usb windows anymore, cause its restart after getting there.

So its more like hardware issue now, motherboard, videocard, memory ram.

What do you think guys can cause of it? sigh*

Yup, that's a hardware issue. You need to get it checked even if you are outside the warranty.

It is out of warranty sad to say. I just brought it to a repair shop near my place. Hopefully they can fix it, without changing some parts of it, i guess its a motherboard issue.

I will let you know if its going to get fix in the upcoming days.

Sup bro .. I have also been having this same problem on my acer laptop .. I wanted to know how things turn out after you sent it to the rapairshop.. did they determine the problem .. mine was also restarting whenever the battery was in so I took the battery out .. it stopped but whenever I try playing a game it will restart and be looping .. wanted to get a new battery but seems like that won’t work base on your experience .. so I am
wondering how things ended when you sent to to the repair shop hope to hear from you soon ..

Boys i need your help, i'm fighting with the SAME problem, i bought a new battery and now if she is plugged, the laptop will reboot infinite times, but not when in BIOS.

Running only on AC, but can't play games or run too many things cause it'll crash
