I'm planning to add new sticks of RAM to my laptop, but I want to know if I can install them if I don't update the BIOS (mine came with vr. 1.06).

@belik I agree, I don't think it would jump speeds had I bought 3200mhz for instance. Still, I'll take CAS 15 any day. Real access to the BIOS would be nice, but I understand why Acer locks it down. That said, our lack of access to something resembling a logical fan curve is really annoying, lol.

@JordanB Yea, you're likely right. I was just super happy it didn't default to lazy CAS 19-20 timings. Although, it does say XMP 2.0 in the SPD Ext box...who knows.

Either way, now we know of a kit that will offer a bit of a performance boost. This is available in 32gb (2x16) as well. I thought about getting that set, but I never get close to using 16gb so I saved a buck.

Sorry about accidentally hijacking your thread...I just wanted to point you in the right direction for a decent RAM kit. As for your question, I think it should work on BIOS 1.06. If it doesn't, Acer made BIOS updates super easy.

  • In my opinion, it will work without problems. What model of ram did you get?

I updated mine to 1.08 and installed some Kingston CAS 15 2666. I don't think the BIOS update was required, but I did it anyways since I was on 1.02. The RAM I got was this... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N2VUOBJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It took to the XMP timings without any effort from me. Bumped up my performance by a smidge.
  • OK! But do both memories work in dual channel? You can check this with cpuz. How did you enable XMP? Since the bios in this model do not support XMP profiles!

I took an chance, and they seem to work. I don't think the XMP will jump speeds...as in going from 2666 to 3200 or anything, but as far as timings go it seems to be function. Nothing was wrong with my old RAM, but man CAS 20 is just terrible at 2666mhz...so I upgraded.

This is the first time I see Helios 300 2019 applied Xmp profile, congrats!

I think that for 2666 it applies Xmp profile automatically but for 3200 it can’t

Well it can be too, anyway it’s good to see that system automatically chose the best from available options

But real manual mode would be even better  =)
