High Ram Usage, any fix? (Nitro AN515-54)

So I’ve recently bought this Nitro 5 about a month ago and it was fast, had no problems at all on any task. However that isn’t the case anymore.

Laptop Specs:
i5 9300H
GTX 1050 3GB
8GB of DDR4 Ram
1TB HDD

At the start I’ve bought a couple of games and they ran great with a very stable FPS. However now when I hop on the exact same games with the lowest settings, it now gets a ton of stutters. Because of this I’m now very hesitant on buying new games. I’ve checked Task Manager to find out that my ram usage was always between 38 - 55% on idle (Even more when actually running a game). That gives me around 2.6 - 3.6 GB of Ram available. Yes I’ve disabled programs on startup, and yes I disabled superfetch. I’ve took a look at the programs running in the background and I ended a lot of them which only got me down to 36% which gave me 3.9 GB of Ram (But when I let it sit it got back up to 37 - 39%). I even used an app to remove all Bloatware that came with the laptop and that didn’t do anything. I’ve turned off majority of the apps running in the background from Setting>Privacy>Background Apps which did nothing. Is there any fix besides buying another stick of ram? Reason I’m not keen on buying another stick is because I’ve just spent $760 on a gaming laptop (More including accessories) and I don’t want to have to drop even more money just to play games. Can someone please help me!

Remember that your system is reserving around 1.1 gb for Operating and Vram and you only have 8gb of RAM installed which means your system has reserved 15% RAM that is unavailable to you. Personally 8gb is not enough for me, 16gb is my go to and considering the low cost of memory right now, your problem would be solved with 8 x 8gb for 16gb total.

Follow my GPU Walkthrough below and 16Gb RAM is far better for today's demanding games

1. Download and install the latest Nvidia drivers from here and do not install GEforce experience, instead check the link every month for updated drivers
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx. Geforce Experience causes problems for some people

2. Go to the Nvidia control center and click Manage 3d settings tab, then click the Global Settings tab and change Preferred Graphics processor from Auto select to your Nvidia GPU, do this by clicking the downward arrow to the right of Auto Select and select the Nvidia GPU. Then under the Program Settings tab select the programs and games that you want to run on the Nvidia GPU. Do the same under the Set PhysX Configuration tab

Go to Settings/Power and Sleep/Advanced Power Settings (on the right) make sure High Performance is selected then click Change Plan Settings/Change Advanced Settings, scroll through the list and expand everything to do with your CPU and GPU select Max for any options particularly the ones on the screens below

What version of windows was your laptop on earlier? And what version is it on now?

Right now it’s Windows 10 Home Version: 1809

And before it was Windows 10 Home Version: 1808

I’ve already done all the setting stuff and the drivers are all up to date. And yes I do agree 16GB of Ram is much better now however I was able to play games smoothly with 8GB of Ram without any stuttering. However now since the ram usage for higher I’m seeing stutters.

You must have something running in the background to cause that. Can you post a screen of Your RAM and CPU usage from Task Manager

There is the culprit "Anti Malware Service Executable" is Windows Defender and it is hogging. Go into your Defender settings and schedule it to run during idle time

If I were to change it to idle, will it make me vulnerable while browsing the web?

You are not changing it to "Idle" you are changing it to perform it's scans while Laptop is idle and it is perfectly safe, it is known as a CPU hogger.

Didn’t really change anything expect lowering the ram usage by a little bit on startup. It’s still above 32 when I’ve mainly closed tasks running in the background. I’ve read that for someone else getting a clean windows fixed some issues for them so I’m gonna try that and see if it solves anything.

Have you got any solution without upgrading the RAM?

I have same laptop model with same issue, RAM usage is almost 60-65% at ideal condition.

Acer support advised me to reset the settings which may work.

⏫This screenshot was made in the users tab.

This mean mathematically, I can only use arround 2.1 Go of RAM (of the 5.9 Go usable RAM wrote in the settings).
