Acer Aspire 7741G BSOD after RAM upgrade

Hi,

I'm still using an older Acer Aspire 7741G as 2nd device. Mostly to surf while watching TV or so.
Recently I bought "Football Manager 20", and this laptop was still good enough to play it. But it lags a bit due to a lack of ram (constantly 3.9 of 4GB used so I can't watch a show and play the game at the same time).

So I decided to upgrade the ram to 8Gb. I bought 2 x "Crucial DDR3L Sodimm 4GB 1600 C11", but when I install them and try to boot my laptop I get a BSOD saying "kernel security check failure".
Somebody told me maybe updating my BIOS would help, so I found a newer version on the Acer support page (I have BIOS version 1.15, and version 1.26 is available.
But when I try to run it, I simply get the error "flash bios fail (0x4D0)"

I can get into the BIOS, and there it shows 8GB ram installed.

Is there anything I'm missing, or will it simply not work?

Some bad news. Some good news.

First the bad. Older DDR3L busses sometimes seem to be fussy about trying to use lower voltage higher speed modules than specified. Your's seems to be one of them.

Re-enter the BIOS. Press F9 to load system defaults. Press F10 to save settings and exit. Jack E?NJ

Try only one of the 4GB modules in one socket. If no joy, try it in the other socket. Same with the other 4GB module only. Can you get either of them to work separately? If not, replace the original modules and make sure the old modules still work OK. Jack E/NJ

Whenever there is 1 of the new modules installed in any socket I get the BSOD, with one or both my old modules everything works perfectly.

- New module 1 in slot 1 = bsod
- New module 1 in slot 2 = bsod
- New module 2 in slot 1 = bsod
- New module 2 in slot 2 = bsod
- Old module in slot 1/2 and any new in the other = bsod
- One or both old ones = working
