hi all. Just wondered if anyone has experienced it? Whilst gaming in high settings on a new game. Either with the turbo button pressed or without the battery is draining ( worse when turbo mode is enabled) Surely this shouldn't be designed to do this? I gamed for an hour earlier and battery was down to 83% surely this isnt good for battery life long term and also surely it shouldn't be draining at all when plugged in?

  • Current models use battery power, even when the notebook is connected to the power adapter, when more performance needs to be provided. There is no problem with your computer.

neon989 its completely normal its the battery main purpose as @egydiocoelho mentioned above the battery will kick in when the adapter cant provide enough power for the cpu/gpu and if you have too many usb devices/external display draining more power it will keep draining the battery while on AC it was designed to do this on all gaming laptops in order to get the full performance of the device and whne the battery reaches 40% you will loose all performance as the adapter will start to try to recharge it and it cant do both at the same time so it will not provide exclusive power to the cpu/gpu they will both down clock to the stock speeds you will have to stop what you are doing let the battery recharge to 100% and continue after

wfrendo there is no issue at all here its completely normal no matter what you do it will always drain battery while gaming or high demanding tasks they are all designed to do this

Xapim. Thanks for your reply buddy. Surely that isn't good for the battery though long term. To be honest I've been playing lots of gta 5 connected to my tv in max details at 2I and the battery has never drained. It's just last night I was playing call of duty blackout maxed out on the laptop itself and that's when it started draining (weirdly enough though when I played blackout a few days prior it didnt drain at all that's why I wasn't sure if it was normal?

Connecting to TV means your laptop screen is off, isn't it?
Also, only some games that hog both CPU and GPU to limits are the ones that need this hybrid power. You shouldn't need to worry much about battery life... My G3-572 is a couple months short of 2 years, always connected to power, and does drain battery when i play heavy games (even with 180 watts charger)... and battery wear is less than 5%.
Did you check if your COD had any update? Also... any use under top 5% (100-95) would not show up as battery used since windows internally does not trigger battery charge until it falls to 95% (to avoid charge-discharge cycles for minute uses).

Upon further inspection it appears that the only games this is happening on is call of duty black ops 4 blackout mode (1080 resolution the same as all other games unless i hook up to my tv) even after turning down the graphics settings lower.  I tried several other maxed out games at 1080 and none of them had any battery drain. Literally only black ops 4 blackout mode. To solve this I just deleted the game :D

Some games are like that, poorly optimized!

Seem's that way. I never noticed it on anything else except black ops 4 blackout. On that game it was draining it quick even with lower graphics settings. Like I say didn't fancy it to keep on happening and degrading battery over time so just deleted the game which solved the problem lol

neon989 my battery also only drains (rarely but just a bit sometimes and bare in mind i only have an i5 1050ti) on the more demanding games and just because im running them all (90% of 130+ installed games) from my external 5tb 2.5" hdd and only had to move 2 games so far into the ssd to be able to run them properly (Anthem and MHW) so this said the only usb devices i have connected its the hdd and my M185 i dont use external keyboard tough i have a Atheon 500 that acer sent me as a gift but still in the box the more usb devices you use the more power drain you have and the battery would have to kick in to aid the adapter  so yeah its completely normal and its just doing what was designed for to always provide full performance as expected and as @sri369 said about his battery its the same with me i have the laptop on 24/7 non stop for the last 2 years and i have about 9/10% battery wear so no the battery will not degrade much if you always play on AC and with the battery always 100% charged it will degrade much more for those who use it always on battery and play with it on battery only not only they will never achieve the full performance because the laptop will underclock the cpu/gpu but also they are damaging the battery in the long term (sometimes even happens in the short term depending on the heavy usage)
