Hello,

Does anyone have a problem with android phones not showing up?

my phone has a micro-usb type, i tried multiple phones with the same issue, and i tried to update the drivers trough the device manager and i get this message:

Is this because of the usb 3.0 that are only available for this laptop?

Thanks

Hi, i just wanna make an update, the problem is now fixed.

I simply did windows factory reset, and it not only fixed this problem, but also a whole bunch of others related to drivers

Try installing samsung USB drivers and see if that helps.

Maybe MS might have a boycott or the tariffs haven't been paid by "Xiaomi" or "Xiaomi" stole some tech unauthorised copyright issues from MS lol nah, only joking, I have had a Samsung Galaxy S7, S8 and now the S10+ and I have never ever had issues with the USB driver(s) to any of those smartphones, who all run/ran Android OP systems, this is an issue with your Windows OP and you should try and get a USB driver from  "Xiaomi" if they have one, otherwise do these steps, assuming that there is no hardware problem with your USB and/or cable:
    1. Right click on Windows Start > Device Manager > Click the topmost entry i.e. your device > Click Action in Menu > Click Scan for hardware changes
Now you should be able to see your USB drive
2, Right click on Windows Start > Device Manager > Expand Disk Drive > Locate the Drive > Right click on this > Uninstall > Reboot your computer
    Now it should be detected
    3. Use the Hardware & Devices Troubleshooter
Type Troubleshoot in Windows Start Search box > Click Troubleshoot > Click Hardware & Devices > Run the Troubleshooter
    4. Whether the Drive is assigned a Drive Letter or not
Right click on Windows Start > Click Disk Management > If you see your Drive is listed there but there is no Drive Letter > Right Click it > Click Change Drive Letter and Paths > Add > Click Assign the following drive Letter > Click in the Drive Letter List Box > Choose an appropriate Drive Letter > OK > OK
    5: Fix USB Root Hub
Windows Key+X > Click Device Manager > Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers > Right-click USB Root Hub option and click Properties > Go to Power Management tab and uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Click OK. > If you have more than one USB Root Hub, repeat this step for all
    6. Update / Reinstall Generic USB Hub
Windows Key+X > Click Device Manager > Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers > Right click on USB Hub > Select Update Driver Software > Browse my computer for driver software > Click on Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > From the list, select Generic USB Hub > Next and follow onscreen instructions > Reboot your Computer

If problem not solved, right-click USB Hub of your USB drive and select Uninstall
Reboot your Computer to install driver automatically

StevenGen i tried all those steps with no luck, it's not just my phone but other phones as well with different brands, my phone works well in my windows 7 mini laptop and in my macbook.

i'll try to post on some MS forum and hopefully find a solution.

Strange issue you got there. Try installing Mi PC Suite. My Redmi Note 3 connects easily. I also have Minimal ADB and fastboot installed.

What is your exact laptop model? Is it fairly new? As this is a very strange thing and very rarely happens, well its never ever happened to me as, USBs don't go wrong unless they are worn out and/or have been used extensively and the pugs are worn out or faulty! This very much sounds like a hardware problem, as the USB 2.0 or 3.0 female pug and circuit board, is faulty on your laptop, because and if "it's not just my phone but other phones as well with different brands, my phone works well in my windows 7 mini laptop and in my macbook" its most definitely a hardware problem within this laptop.

My 16g usb drive connects easily so i'm not sure if it's a hardware problem, right now i found a workaround which is using a third party app that uses usb debugging

This laptop has only usb 3.0 ports, and i'm using a regular micro-usb cable , could this be the problem?

Shouldn't... it would simply use a 2.0 cable as a 2.0 connection even when connected on 3. Did you try installing samsung drivers?
