What thickness for thermal pads can I use on GPU VRM chips for Acer Predator Helios 300 (PH315-52)?

Good i live in Greece so when the time comes i replace the pink paste in GPU VRAM chips.
No need to search for thermal pads thickness.

    Hi all, hope you are all well during these difficult days. I have read all the discussion as I had decided to re-apply my the thermal paste of my acer ph 315-52, and was not quite sure . My main concern is removing the pink paste, and replacing thermal pads instead of the pink paste. I have two questions, if I apply a decent thermal paste (kryonaut, mx-4);

Do you think it is safe to replace the pink paste with thermal pads?
Does using the advised thicknesses of thermal pads for on vrms (0.5 and 1mm, and some with 1mm and additional paste) cause any problem.

    Thank you.

but each heatsink is individual and may differ from mine

So, should I just go with what you did and check if I am getting impressions on the thermal pads? This technique will check if the thermal pad is thinner than required. How do I check if the thermal pad is thicker than required?

Yep, you can use K5-Pro or do a bit of guessing game / trial and error with 0.5 and 1mm pads.

Will a 10cmX10cm sheet of 0.5 mm pad and a 10cmX10cm sheet of 1mm pad suffice?

I have seen ppl using normal thermal paste to replace the thick pink paste over the vram chipsets and no issues at all and personally that would be the way i would do it myself if if i had that models also if acer intended to put thermal pads over the vram chipsets they would had do it on stock as they did on the 2017/18 variants they have changed it for a reason but anyway everyone is free to try the way they want just bare in mind if the heatsink its not evenly leveled ove both diodes will create a air gap and thermal issues :)

@belik have you tried lowering cpu cache offset ever on i7 9750h ? If yes how much do you lower ir ? Tx

I need help to fix the whining noise the Nitro 5 fan makes at low RPM, I need to replace them with better fans. The only other fans that fit are the Acer Helios 300 2020 but to order the parts I need a serial number from the Acer Helios 300 2020 which has to be bought in Australia, please could I have yours? The S/N is located on the bottom of the laptop or you can use this tool http://global-download.acer.com/SupportFiles/Files/SNID/APP/SerialNumberDetectionTool.exe

    No no and no
If you use 1mm instead of pink paste, your gpu will have really bad contact

I will tell you the only reliable way to know, you need to apply paste on cpu and gpu, apply pads 1 mm everywhere except vmem, apply 0.5 mm pads on vmem, install heatsink, uninstall heatsink and check footprint everywhere, by paste and on pads
only this way you can know as each heatsink individual

as I told your pink on vmem near the edge doesn’t have contact, why?
so you were saying that apply kryonaut paste on both cpu and gpu, use 0.5mm pads on vram and 1mm for other components. right?

ajay_casi i wouldnt use any thermal pads at all on the vram chips that have the pink thermal paste either apply normal thermal paste or get some thicker like the k5 pro those vram chips were not meant to use thermal pads if they were acer would had put it with thermal pads might not have proper therml contact between the heatsink and the cpu/gpu diodes creating thermal issues so if anyone here wants to go for thermal pads good luck do it at your own risk plus the vram chipsets do not require much cooling anyways

Blackbean better fans its impossible the whining its normal on the new 4th gen aeroblade fans at low rpm if you want to stop it you have to swap the to plastic delta it will work but not so efficient thats your only option also why do you need the serial number and its not allowed to ask for serial numbers/snid  unless specifically asked by any acer staff member by direct message neither post them publicly its against the ACUA (please read it) to know the exact part number youre looking for i only need the full model number also you have a nitro 5 the part numbers arent the same as the H300 and post your issue in the nitro 5 forum this forum its for predator/triton only good luck

Not sure if anyone needs this but I figured I’d post anyways. Know this thread is basically dead. https://www.amazon.com/viscous-thermal-paste-replacement-Aspire/dp/B00UTX7K2E/ this is the stuff I used on a PH315-53 and it worked perfectly.

So after applying 0.5mm pads to VRM with some noctua drops on the 3 mentioned chips with pad over top and applying noctua to both cpu and gpu, I have better results than before.

Back when I used arctic mx4, I was hitting high CPU temps in my he 84 to 91 degrees Celsius when playing Destiny 2. And that was with a cooler pad underneath running at max.

Now with noctua nt h2, it runs at a max of 74 to 76 degrees Celsius for the CPU without cooler pad running. With cooler pad on max fans underneath, I’m averaging 64 to 74 degrees Celsius. Quite an improvement I have to say. That or I did a better paste job on the dies this time.
Hey, is your laptop still going strong, I also applied paste to the vram chips and would like to know if it’s a good method?

Is it still going strong? Btw what paste did you use on the CPU/GPU?

VRAM chips do go very hot, infact they can easily cross 100 degree celsius under heavy loading, so they need proper contact with the main heat sink. Just check online how hot can a VRAM get and why it needs adequate cooling like that of a CPU or a GPU!
