I connect my switch 5 to an external monitor via an USB C to HDMI cable. Whenever it goes to hibernate or after turning it off it would not be possible to select the second screen without having to plug out the cable and reinserting it again. any advise? the keyboard also won't work after going into sleep unless, I detach and attach it again. Switch 5 is some weird sleep issue. I already checked the drivers and they are up to date.

    Hello!!

    @danieltan23

Many users who are using Laptops from different manufacturers are facing issues of either laptop won’t go to sleep, if it does then Power still remain ON and even they’ll find that CPU and fan are working as well. But there won’t be anything on the screen and you’ll not be able to wake it back from sleep. Not just laptops, even hybrid of Laptop and Tablets like Acer Switch unit, like yours.

To fix the weird sleep issue of your computer, running Windows 10 OS - Try the listed solutions one by one.

    Solution 1

    • On the Desktop, right-click on This PC and select Properties.
    • On the left, choose Device Manager.
    • Click the arrow next to Display Adaptors to expand that category.
    • Right-click on Intel(R) HD Graphics Family or ATI or Nvidia which ever applies for your computer and select Update Driver Software.

    Update Graphics driver

    • Choose the option to Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software.
    • Your computer should find and automatically install the updated driver.
    • After the installation is complete, restart your computer.

If this doesn’t fix the issue, then here’s another solution:

    Solution 2

Rather than just updating the driver from windows update, let’s update the driver and force it to use driver files from previous windows installation where you didn’t had the issues i stated above.

    • On the Desktop, right-click on This PC and select Properties.
    • On the left, choose Device Manager.
    • Click the arrow next to Display Adapters to expand that category.
    • Right-click on Intel(R) HD Graphics Family or ATI or Nvidia which ever applies for your computer.
    • Click “Update Driver“
    • Choose “Browse my computer from driver software”

    Update Driver Software Selection

    • Enter “C:\” without quotes in search path for driver software and hit Next.

    Browse for Driver Software

    • Now computer shall search for graphics driver from your Previous windows installation and automatically re-install them.
    • Reboot the computer.

This should fix the wake up from sleep issue. However please note that this solution shall work only if you have upgraded to “Windows 10” and you’ve not deleted previous Windows installation folder i.e. “windows.old” folder, because computer shall gonna search for driver in this folder too for display driver.

    Solution 3

If above solution proves to be temporary solution, then assuming you’ve already did steps of Solution 2. Then:

    • Go to “Device manager“.
    • Right click on Intel(R) HD Graphics Family or ATI or Nvidia which ever applies for your computer and select “Properties“.
    • Go to Driver Tab and Click “Roll Back Driver“.
    • Reboot your Computer.

Although doing this solution doesn’t make any sense really, but many users have been able to get the issue fixed this way. So it’s worth a try.

    Solution 4

For fixing wake up issue, you need to follow these steps and try to run the Power troubleshooter:

    1. Press Windows key + X on the keyboard.
    2. Click on Control panel.
    3. Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the Control panel search box.
    4. Click on Troubleshooting and click on View all.
    5. Click on Power troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions.

Also try to run the “System maintenance troubleshooter” from “Troubleshooting” lists after running “Power Troubleshooter“.

Also turn off “Fast Restart” in the power settings.
