Screen replacement guide for PH315-52-78VL (Intel i7-9750H, Nvidia GTX 1660ti)

Hey folks, got this laptop in August and I did something stupid... managed to contaminate the screen with some hot coffee. It's not bad, and I can live with it if I must, but I'd like to make a go at repairing it. I have a spudger kit and I had no problem getting the bezel off, but at that point I'm stuck. I need some guidance on how to remove & replace.

But this does not appear to be the same screen -- my screen has metal-on-plastic fasteners around the edges that do not appear in these photos.

Is there a service manual? Or a how-to or something that is specific to this model & style of screen?

Yeah, I can find replacement screens. Amazon lists a couple of suppliers. I just need a guide on how to safely remove the old screen and install the new one.

RickRussellTX Unfortunately i havent found any videos from anyone that had replaced it i have access to the service manuals for all models but we can only use bits like part numbers etc from it to use for troubleshooting we are not authorized under NDA to give out complete instructions or how to disassemble/assemble anything the service manuals are only intended to acer staff/engineers/repair center etc but im sure if you be careful you can disassemble and assemble it without any issues its basically almost always the same procedure when it comes to laptops display replacements

Apparently you need to unfasten them, what is next, doesn’t display come off easily?

OK, I decided to "take the plunge", and I guess it was easier than I anticipated.

I used this replacement screen:

Removal of the plastic bezel is just a simple matter of spudging/lifting carefully.

I thought the screen was locked into a metal frame, but it's actually just floating inside the frame, held in place with adhesive. After trying to pry it for a awhile, I found the little pull tabs at the very top of the screen that allow you to de-laminate the adhesive, and it was out. Note that this process will be completely destructive for the adhesive strips.

Disconnecting it was a simple matter of peeling back some clear film over the connector, using a plastic spudger to lift the metal clip holding the motherboard connector into the back of the display panel, and gently working the connector out. Replacement was easy, just work the new connector back in, fold the clip back over the connection, and push the plastic film back down over it to hold and insulate it. If you damage or cut up the film, I'm sure some electrical tape would work fine.

Finally, I used some double-sided tape to re-mount the display -- just a little square in each of the 4 corners. It probably will not allow for removal without destroying the screen, but if I ever need to remove the screen again, I presume it means I'm replacing the screen, so no big whoop. Check to make sure the motherboard connector wire is routed through the supplied grooves (don't want to pinch it) and snap the bezel back on.

Essentially, although only the adhesive instructions were relevant for the PH315-52-78VL. There were no additional gaskets or anything; the display panel fits quite closely into the metal frame that makes up the screen portion of the laptop, so there's no additional alignment required.

Remove bezel, adhesive, display connector is all you need to remove. Reconnect, new adhesive, affix bezel and it's finished.

Backlight bleeding no worse than the original screen. There is a little bleeding, but this screen is made for speed, not for color accuracy.

Is anyone still active? I remove the bezel and manage to disconnect the wires and connector from the motherboard. I'm looking to buy a new screen but can anyone link a reliable source to buy? If I buy a new screen, does it come with all the wires and connector like the old screen? (like in the picture, there are wires and connector with the screen? Will the new screen that I buy come with all of that?)

Hi Kevin.

1. I know this advice comes late -- you don't need to remove the entire top panel from the base. In fact, you can pretty much reassemble the laptop. The screen can be replaced simply by unsnapping the front plastic bezel from the top panel and leaving the structure attached.

2. You remove the existing screen by locating two rubbery tabs at the very top edge of the screen. Pull on them, parallel to the screen, and the adhesive will stretch and detach from the screen. You may need to use needlenose pliers to get a good grip on the rubber tabs to start. This will destroy the adhesive, but it will release the screen from the top panel. The cable at the bottom of the screen is held on to the screen by a metal clip, open the clip and pull the plug out, you'll need to keep that cable.

You just plug the cable from the motherboard into the display, close the wire clip and good to go. It is a drop in replacement, correct size and correct connector on the bottom. Except for the lack of rear illumination, my laptop looks like new.

4. When re-mounting, you'll need to use your own adhesive. I had a roll of this stuff in my toolbox ( https://smile.amazon.com/3M-03609-Scotch-Mount-Molding-Tape/dp/B000BO913C/ref=sr_1_1_sspa ), so I cut off 4 little squares and put one in each corner of the screen. I suspect there is no way to remove it without destroying the screen, but there's literally no reason for me to ever dismount the screen unless I'm replacing it anyway, so no big deal. The screen is held in correct position by the edges of the top panel, so there's no risk of misaligning it; just drop it in to the cavity and it will line up on all edges.
