My acer aspire 515-51-563W is dual-booting with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04.3. I rarely will use windows, as of personal preference. Using Ubuntu, the brightness slider disappeared about a week ago, along with it's input recognition. The internal FN+F6 key does not adjust the brightness. I have an external bluetooth keyboard with an FN+F2 key to adjust brightness, that again, does not work. Any keyboard shortcut I attach to change the brightness in the device settings within the system menu will fail.

Zenity's input method prints this:
Current configuration for the input method:
 * Active configuration: missing (normally missing)
 * Normal automatic choice: ibus (normally ibus or fcitx or uim)
 * Override rule:
 * Current override choice:  (en_US)
 * Current automatic choice: ibus
 * Number of valid choices: 2 (normally 1)
The override rule is defined in /etc/default/im-config.
The configuration set by im-config is activated by re-starting X.
Explicit selection is not required to enable the automatic configuration if the active one is default/auto/cjkv/missing.
  Available input methods: ibus xim
Unless you really need them all, please make sure to install only one input method tool.

I have a System Profiler and Benchmark tool  with these shown as the input devices;
-Input Devices-
 Lid Switch
 Sleep Button
 Power Button
 Power Button
 AT Translated Set 2 keyboard
 Logitech USB Receiver
 Logitech USB Receiver
 Acer WMI hotkeys
 ELAN0501:01 04F3:3060 Touchpad
 HDA Intel PCH Front Headphone
 HDA Intel PCH HDMI/DP,pcm:3
 HD WebCam: HD WebCam
 Bluetooth 3.0 Keyboard

The System profiler and benchmark tool gives me this as the display information as well :

I've resorted to adjusting the brightness with the terminal, but with every change made there it needs to be rebooted. I feel as if this is a hardware issue; as the monitor brightness isn't adjustable on my windows partition as well. Any ideas for a fix or resolution to this issue?

    FN+F6 usually doesn't control brightness. FN+Right/Left Arrow key should control brightness in both Win & Lin. Jack E/NJ

    That doesn't work on this model either. I think the problem lies in the display not being recognized.

    Here are the hotkey combos that should work. Which ones work? Which ones don't? May be a keyboard issue. Or maybe the BIOS FN key behavior needs to be changed. Instead of using the FN key combo, use the single F# key alone to see what happens.  Jack E/NJ
