Hi everyone.

I have a strange problem. My laptop's built-in keyboard is not working inside Windows.
It is a software-driver problem, because I can open the settings or the boot menu (F12). I can also enter bios and text, and every key works properly. However, when Windows is booted, not a single key works.

- I first tried reinstalling the keyboard's driver, but it didn't work.
- I tried most of the solutions I found online, and nothing worked.

So finally, I decided to format the computer to get rid of all problems and installed windows 10 again, but, however, keyboard is not working in this recently installed windows, but still works in BIOS config and ubuntu live, so it's not a hardware problem.
I don't know what to do, honestly. I would really appreciate some help here.
Thanks a lot!

    Hi,

These are the basic steps that you need to follow.

    Power Drain test for laptop.

If your computer is not having the inbuilt battery follow these steps.

    1.  Turn off the laptop.  Unplug all the cables and devices including power cable.

    2.  Remove the battery if it is not inbuilt.

    3.  Hold the power button for 50 seconds.

    4.  Connect all the cables back

    5.  Turn on the computer.

    Steps to remove the battery.

    1.  Turn off the computer.   Remove all the cables and devices including power cable

    2.  Turn the laptop upside down.  Flip the laptop.  On the back of laptop there will be a unlock switch.  You need to move the switch to the left or right and then you need to pull the battery door out.

If your computer is having an inbuilt battery follow these steps.

    Power Drain test.

    1.  Turn off the laptop.  Unplug all the cables and devices including power cable.

Flip the laptop.  On the back of the laptop there will be a tiny hole.  It is called a battery reset hole.  There will be a battery symbol right next to the hole.

    2. You need to insert a paper clip or small pin gently inside the hole and hold it for    30 seconds.

    3. Plug all the cables back and turn on the computer.

    Step 2

    Bios Defaults.

     1. Turn on the computer and keep on tapping f2.  It will go to bios setup utility

     2. Press f9 once on the bios setup screen.   It will show you bios defaults.  Please press yes.

     3. Press f10 on the bios setup screen.  It will show you "yes" to save the changes.  Please press yes.

Computer will automatically restart and it will load windows..

Thanks a lot @mohan2018 , I'll try that as soon as I'm able.
If this doesn't work, what else could be causing this problem?

    Hi,

Since your keyboard is working fine in Bios, it is  not a hardware issue.   Sometimes external peripherals which are connected to computer might also be the cause of the issue.  The steps which I have given to you on my earlier post are very important steps.   They are called power drain test and Bios defaults.   I request you to try both the steps.  Using these steps, many issues were fixed earlier.

I understand. Well, I won't be able to do the power drain, because the battery is built-in, but I will surely test the bios default settings as soon as I can. Thanks a lot, I'll write you back when I try it.

Hi @mohan2018 . I did what you asked (default settings in Bios) and the problem remains.
As I stated, the battery is built-in, so I can't perform the power drain. What else could I do?
  • You can reset the battery like this:

Hi @egydiocoelho , thanks for your suggestion. I did the reset button move, but nothing changed. Also, safe mode doesn't help. I don't know what else could be the problem, bios update? hard drive error?
    Thanks friends.
  • Are there any drivers with device manager issues?

Nothing, everything looks normal, no errors, no nothing. I even tried reinstalling the driver, with no luck.
I'm using a usb keyboard and it works fine.
    This isreally strange -.-
  • Have you tried reinstalling windows by pressing alt + f10 before the Acer logo?

@egydiocoelho Not really, I did a clean format and installed win10 from a usb. I'm getting quite desperate on this... I trully don't know what else to try.
  • Have you tried installing the acer care center program? Also, in uefi bios there is a function called function key behavior.
