Upgrading RAM on Swift 3 SF314-41 (Athlon 300u)

Hi, I couldn't find an answer to this using the search. I have a Swift 3 SF314-41 (Athlon 300u) and would like to upgrade the RAM. I'm new to computers though and am a bit confused. I have attached snips from CPU-Z and the Crucial system scanner. From what I can understand, I have 4GB RAM non-removable, but only 1 slot. Does that mean I can't upgrade at all? Is it impossible to remove soldered memory and replace it with a bigger stick? I had hoped I could put 2 x 4GB for dual channel but this doesn't seem promising. Appreciate any advice, TIA

    Hi,

I am sorry for the confusion.   Onboard  memory slots are inbuilt.    If the memory is soldered you cannot remove it.   You can make use of the free memory slots to install memory sticks.

    please read the comments from

Please check the memory specification  on the link given below for

    Swift 3 SF314-41

After researching,  I am able to find the details below

Acer Swift 3 SF314-41-R80D Laptop Memory Questions.

What type of memory does the Acer Swift 3 SF314-41-R80D Laptop take?

The Acer Swift 3 SF314-41-R80D Laptop takes the DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHz Non-ECC SODIMM memory type, and comes installed with 4GB (Soldered) memory.

How much memory does the Acer Swift 3 SF314-41-R80D Laptop take?

You can upgrade your Acer Swift 3 SF314-41-R80D Laptop to up to a maximum memory capacity of 12GB Memory.

How many total memory slots to install memory?

The Laptop has 2 Slots (1 Upgradable) to install memory, already with 4GB (Soldered) standard memory installed. For best Swift 3 SF314-41-R80D Laptop performance use the maximum amount of 12GB, fill all the slots with the max allowed memory per slot for your Laptop.

Thank you for your informative answer, Mohan! I have some further questions:

"The Laptop has 2 Slots (1 Upgradable) to install memory, already with 4GB (Soldered) standard memory installed. For best Swift 3 SF314-41-R80D Laptop performance use the maximum amount of 12GB, fill all the slots with the max allowed memory per slot for your Laptop."

From what I understand, the AMD CPU will benefit from more RAM running in dual channel. Would it thus be better to just add another 4GB stick (and run 2 x 4GB in dual channel), or add a 8GB stick (to have 4GB + 8GB = 12GB)? Would the second configuration still be able to run in dual channel? Or is the 'extra' 4GB not really worth it?

    Appreciate any advice, TIA

    Hi,

I appreciate your response.   There is a golden formula.   The more memory you add to your computer, the more faster it will work.   Add a 8GB stick (to have 4GB + 8GB = 12GB).   Since there is only one extra slot ,  I have suggested you this option.

But if you wish to add 4GB + 4 GB,  it is also a best option.    Now I am leaving the option to you.

    Hello,
Just for your known, I have SF 314-41-R2XF (model Ryzen 5 3500u) with 4gb soldered.
I upgraded the ram slot without any problem with a 16gb sodimm and now I have in total 20gb working ram (less 2.1 gb reserved for Vega GPU).
    Best regards

Hey, came across this post while looking into the possibility of upgrading the RAM slot with a 16 Gb stick. Does it work okay?

@Nazratul as the other messages here state, the SF314-41 models all have 4GB soldered to the motherboard and a single SO-DIMM socket available for expansion. Acer supports up to an 8GB stick in that slot for a total of 12GB of memory, but some customers state that they have been able to place a 16GB stick in to get 20GB. Unless you really need more than 12GB I would stick with what is officially supported, either a 4GB or 8GB stick.
