I think I need to change settings in Bios to be able to install Windows 10 Pro, but what and how?

Hi,

I have an Acer Spin 5 (SP515-51GN) and Windows Update has notified me that my not yet 2 year old Windows Home are soon out of support and they prompt me to "update to Pro".

So I bought a Win 10 Pro license , I followed all instructions to download Microsoft tool in both Swedish and English, on three different USB sticks and tried about 10-15 times during the day.
But what ever I try to change and what I have tried also understand in Bios I always end up with the same Win 10 Home edition (but clean installation).

When the installation process starts from the USB it goes very smooth, as I tried to refresh just the preinstalled Win 10 Home and I never ever get the chance to enter the new licens-key.

Any advise for me?

And please, if you have any good advise... please keep it simple as instructions for dummies!

If you upgraded to (purchased) Windows 10 Pro through the microsoft store, then you just change your product key to the generic Windows 10 Pro key. (You must be logged in to Windows with your Microsoft Account). After you enter the pro product key, Windows takes care of the rest....and does everything automatically (your computer will restart). To enter your pro product key, go to Settings>Activation

If you bought Windows 10 Pro from somewhere else and they actually gave you a Windows 10 Pro key, then you would use that key.

I haven´t bought the key directly from Microsoft but the seller have over 15.500 satisfied customers this year just selling licences. Of course they could sent a key that was bad/corrupt in some way. So I have tried and plenty of times doing it the simple way but it dosen´t work.

So I'm back again on the thoughts surrounding Bios settings and the reson is simple, I have googled and googled countless hours today and I could smell a solution in other cases but non are using my Acer. So I wonder if this is something anyone have any competence regarding the Bios in my device? As I understand it there are plenty of security options in both Windows and Acers and other vendors hardware.

I missed to add, I have followed the instructions from the key-seller and they state that I should use the Microsoft update assistant tool. download the Update Assistant. But when I do that the previous Home installation always takes over and I have no chance to enter a key. The installation always starts great but I never get the chance... I never get prompt to enter any key.

Hi Jordan, thanks for trying to help me!
But I´m sorry to tell you the this simple way doesn´t work and the instructions from the Win10 Pro key sellers is to use an Windows installation USB to start installation from. As we speak I create a new Win 10 start media USB. But I have none whatsoever belief that this will work (the first 3 stick didn´t).

I have googled som mor and found out that the Bios InsydeH20 (the Bios in my Acer) have some security settings connected to "secure boot". So that why I'm going on about the Bios, and the name is "InsydeH20"...

So Jordan, I'm not a professional, I don´t even know what I'm looking for but I had the same problem with a never HP (other security features). In that case I had support from HP (njaaaa not so much) but I found out myself how to change secure boot and remove some setting in Bios first, then reinstall with my own Windows Pro Key.

Then the local/Onsite IT support gave me a brand new key though I left the company and got to keep the laptop if I reinstalled it with a new Win 10 Pro. But as you understand, that time it was another Bios and not the InsydeH20. I have reached out to the company Insyde in USA but on their website they stats, contact your hardware manufacturer for support.

I think the key to my problem with totally new installation and upgrade to Windows 10 Pro are in the Bios. When I create and then use the new Win10 USB media I always end up with the Win 10 Home, I never get the chance to steer the installation from Home to pro, never even get the chance to put in a new Win-key number and start from scratch. The reason for this must be in the previous setup of Win10 Home and the solution must be in Bios... If you don't have any other suggestions that is, besides just putting in a new key number directly into the Windows Home... that doesn't work.
