@xapim i really appreciate that, thank you, i saved them and will implement it.

and to disable driver/BIOS updates the method i used was here, that combined with these registry keys should be enough to keep me safe?

i just went in and paused updates for as long as i could, which seems to be 35 days. that is the max i can, i think the ability to delay longer is only for Windows Pro and not Home. i don't see anywhere to prevent a feature update at all. so i guess people with Windows Home can delay these updates for a month before our laptops are bricked lol.
    1. Disable updates via the @xapim way or via the gpedit way (policies available in windows 10 pro) - i push security updates by 30 days and feature updates by 365 days.
    2. Take regular image backups of your windows drive - bi-weekly preferred. Try to partition your drive to about 120 GB + whatever other you can - with 120 GB space for windows only. Install games and others outside of this drive. Also would be wise to map documents folders to outside of drive that contains windows. This way windows reset/reinstall would not effect existing data.

oobula the disable reg key with service disabled will not update anything you will only have to live with the permanent icon in the task bar saying that youre missing important updates but even if you click it it will give you an error because the service its disabled you can always revert back by enable the reg and service

Ehhh, I get the whole "ehr mah gehrd, upderts brrk mah PC" mentality.

All too often I hear people say that updates are somehow the devil, and should basically be avoided at all costs.

I disagree.  An update can introduce new features or improvements to old ones that make it BETTER, but don't necessarily "fix an issue".  It worked before, and it will work BETTER after.

Hypothetically, if an update was available that have your whole PC a 200% speed boost, but didn't "fix" any old bugs, and didn't introduce any new ones, then the whole idea of not updating because it currently "works" isn't a very good excuse.

For me, CPU utilization in 1909 is just at 5-10% (or 1.6-2GHz) at idle everyday.

This is the ideal situation that was true most of the time until the sunset of Windows 7. With windows 10 was introduced the updating of windows drivers and even bios updating... and this isn't successful all the time breaking drivers and bricking laptops. Hence the caution.

Same... with 1909, on idle, CPU utlization is around 3-10%, and about 4-6 cores parked (of the total 8 (4x2) my laptop has).

Has anyone already updated to windows 10 v2004?

I have the Acer Predator PH517-51, and windows don't display it to me, the only way at the moment is using the upgrade tool.

Really waiting for WSL 2 :)

If you asked me, I would be against it. I defer security updates by 2 weeks and feature updates by 6 months. Windows published list may not be scary, but the unpublished ones that people find out the hard way definitely are.

ChevyCam94 well the reality is that many here got their laptops bricked because MS introduced bios updates via windows updates and they werent flashed properly bricking the devices that they had to send to acer (and probably the same on other manufacturers) to get it fixed and not only bios but issues with broken drivers after the updates so yeah to me drivers/bios updates via windows are useless unless you have a particular issue that would be solved with that exact update and you cant get it from anywhere else i disabled mine since day 1 this was almost 2 years ago running all stock drivers apart from nvidia only had to update once as the stock wouldnt run some latest games im on 416.92 and never had a single issue since all running perfectly.

Also win10 1909 its prob the worst windows version after 1803 ( and its not even a real full version update its just to enable some dormant services already present on 1903 like the useless cpu always clocking on max even on idle because its only using 2 cores while the other cores are idling :P) my personal advice to anyone who wants it its stick either to 1809 if you dont need game pass or 1903 required for gamepass and personally i dont trust microsoft for driver/bios updates ever whatever you need do it manually with the manufacturer drivers/bios) i myself still on 1809 since the first day it came out and sticking with it but hey this is just my own view and the lesson to learn here its if anything breaks after any update (via windows updates) if you go to MS to ask for help/complaining about it they will basically just show u the middle finger they just dont care they're too popular now to care xd.

PS: im not saying anyone to not update and everyone its free to do it the way they want and feel thats better this thread its just a suggestion/advice of the risks that already happened to many and will still keep happening :)

Also using third party softwares to update the drivers its not any good either most of them will get them from the windows update catalog anyway
I feel as though everyone has forgotten why we have Microsoft Windows 10.  - Apple did it and got caught however they are still doing it with their iPhones. Microsoft said, hey! if Apple is allowed to do it, so shall we.  SPYING. The world of info commericals, streaming unwanted trash, post ems, blog, vlogs and social media, pop up advertisements, type anything and your PC will learn it so it can doppelganger you. Microsoft and Apple is all about tracking what you do and where you go. You do not have any PRIVACY.   People will video and audio record you. Oh no! oh YES! it is on the World Wide Web and sent everywhere.  You did not get my permission to record me. That is not in the rule book, anything goes today. Too late, those people over there are coming to punish you ... your life is over. If you don't have the CLOUD yet! The cloud will be over your head soon and so you are doomed.
Microsoft Windows 10 was FREE ..yes again, FREE. Microsoft had you by the family jewels and they said no more support for Windows 7, Win 8.1 etcetera. You must have Windows 10 sucker. We are going to blast you with everything we got just so we can take all your money. APPLE and MICROSOFT super $Billion dollar companies and growing. Not only these 2 super corporations got you were it counts so does the U.S. Government and other foreign governments. They know more about you than you know about yourself. If they wanted they can make you vanish and never be found or heard from again.
How I wished we could go back to Windows XP Pro.  Well, lots of people do not want to work, they want to get paid big money $$ for doing nothing or just whatever they want to do. Did you know "WORK" is a dirty four letter word and when does Evil come to mind.

Scottyat5 spot on there i back up all that was said all my older laptops including acer are still on win7 and some even dual boot with xp (patched to 32gb ram support) and they do not give anything for free thats why the first thing i do on any new laptop its to disable windows updates and the so called (spying) telemetry services that probably most ppl arent aware of running in the background windows 10 its a complete privacy risk lol they have made backdoors to access whatever they want when they want to without no one realise it if they needed to thats why linux its still the safest os to use and thats why its used on 99% of the servers and cloud thats a simple fact :)

When they say FREE do not fool yourselves they do not give anything for free without something in return  :p and theres the reason why MS said this is the last and final windows of all they managed to finally built in their own spyware OS no need to develop any more new windows versions from now on just tweaking it

Receiving delivery of a screaming Helios 300 soon. This will be the fastest system I've ever owned and am almost salivating. When I had a Dell, they were very specific about following their suggested backups and installation sequence when updating drivers for a new system: bios & chipset drivers always first, graphic card drivers and other devices in a very particular order to avoid problems. Never had any issues/problems doing it that way with Dell. Perhaps this is why some have issues here when updating Predator drivers? My question: Is there a suggested sequence for updating Predator drivers? I haven't asked Acer yet & thought I would ask for your thoughts here too. PS: Is this the right area to post this? When I clicked on Acer Laptops the Predator series was not mentioned. Is this for all things Predator? Thanks everyone. :)

RavenAZ no specific sequence but my suggestion is disable windows from updating  firmware and drivers (or even completely) only update what you need manually when/if needed if its working fine leave it dont break it

ALMOST ALWAYS, DISABLE WINDWOWS FROM AUTO UPDATING DRIVERS AND FIRMWARE.

These two you can do on an as-needed basis.

In pro it is there visible to the user. It is present in Home edition too, just not directly available to the normal user. You'd need to go via the Group Policy Editor way. Look it up online.
