I have a nitro 5 laptop which has i5, a 1050ti and 8gb of ram and was wondering if there is a way to overclock without msi afterburner since my power limit slider is greyed out and stuck at 0. Also if you have any ideas on how to fix it that would also be appreciated.

I believe that your model's BIOS is locked to prevent overclocking and overclocking is unavailable to protect your CPU from damage.
I know this isn't the answer you wanted but if I answered your question please click YES. Thankyou

You can increase perfomance with MSI Afterburner. Launch them and press ctrl+f and you see graph voltage/frequence. You can  increase frequences per voltages. Also you can check video to overclock 1050ti on notebook.
And you can undervolt your proccessor with Intel Xtreme Utility. That lowered temperature and give your proccessor reach higher frequences. You can check video, too
Second stick 8gb ram increase perfomance, too

I know this is an old question, but this is an answer for people who find this because it comes up kind of high when you search for this in Google.
Yes, you can overclock a 1050ti on a Nitro V with MSI afterburner. No you cannot unlock the core voltage or power limit, but this does not mean you can't overclock. Every 1050ti will have a small variance in how much you can overclock. Some might be larger than others. At the moment the best course of action is to use Intel's extreme tuning program if you have an i5 8300H. Older generations of the Nitro will have a 7th gen i5. Not quite sure on the ability to undervolt those processors, but it's important to do so if you plan on overclocking the GPU to stay within the thermal limits of the laptops cooling system.
I would also suggest using nitrosense to keep your fans on max andaand any throttling while gaming. Because you will experience some throttling if you just use the default fan profile as it will bump against to be 90° Celsius temperature limit on the CPU. If you experience throttling while gaming with an undervolt then you will need to decrease your overclock until you stay below 90°
Throttling will result in sudden frametime spikes and fps dips as the processor dips to lower clocks.
