Hi everyone I am looking at buying a predator triton 500 rtx 2070 max q laptop and was wondering if it had the ability in predator sense software to switch off the nvidia graphics to allow the Intel graphics to work alone in order to save battery life, this is on the Rtx 2080 max q model and not on the Rtx 2060, this would sway my decision to buy one or save for the Rtx 2080 model..... thanks

johnboy73 you can switch between optimus and g-sysnc only on 2070/2080 variants 2060 doesnt have g-sync neither optimus and im not sure if the 2070 has optimus available either i think its only the 2080 that has it and the option has to be changed in the bios as far as i had read about it and requires a reboot every time you would want to switch between optimus and g-sync you cant switch it on PS as far as im aware only in the bios itself (unless Acer upgraded the option to be aslo used on PS only someone who owns one would know exactly) because it requires a reboot check this review anyway hope this helps somehow :)

Thanks for the response xapim.... I've read all sorts of reviews of the 2060 and 2080 models but haven't found a review of the 2070 anywhere I have even called Acer but they weren't very convincing that they knew what they were talking about, guy said that you could turn it off via the nvidia control panel, the reviews of the 2080 have shown you can turn off the graphics in the bios and via the predator sense botb requiring a reboot, and have also seen that on the 2060 you definitely can't switch them but the 2070 is a mystery....

johnboy73 i suspect that only the 2080 has optimus the 2060/2070 do not support it  (i coulndt find anything anywhere stating the 2070 had optimus) thats why you dont have any options neither on PS neither in the bios :)

    Hello,
The triton 500 with the rtx 2070 max q variant has the optimus according to this review from notebookcheck :
"...A really nice fact: In contrast to the last test device (triton 500 rtx 2080 max q), the graphics switch optimus was already active and did not have to be turned on in the BIOS first..."

neon989 the best solution its to call acer support directly and ask about it surely they would know

I didn't get anywhere with acer.. however upon owning now for over a month I think I can comment... firstly the 2080 max q has a g sync sticker on the bottom of the screen.. my 2070 model does not. The 2080 model you can switch on in predator sense, reboot and away you go with gsync on my 2070 there is no option the predator sense for this. I believe there is no gsync on the 2070 model.. at least not with the built in display.. it maybe gsync compatible with an external monitor... but I do not have a monitor so cannot confirm nor deny this that's just my thought..

To further complicate the mess...or maybe help.

I believe anything with g-sync, cannot use Optimus (and visa versa), as it passes through the Intel gpu and therefore can't "free-sync" on the laptops display.

I have a Helios 300 with a 1660ti & Optimus. I have no g-sync on my laptop screen, nor do I have g-sync using HDMI out to an external...however, when I use display port out I get g-sync on my external monitor. I suspect this is due to Optimus passing through the Intel IGP on the laptop display and through HDMI...but display port is coming straight out of the 1660ti.

    2 cents...don't know for sure.

neon989 you would probably get g-sync via external display only you internal display probably wont support it if you dont have option for in on nvcp means doesnt support it

jakesu11y youre probably correct there all models that have dp port the DGPU should be directly connected to it (not really sure to where the hdmi port its directly connected to tough) on older models with hdmi only its the same case with the hdmi port
