Acer Extensa EX2540 Notebook PC Core i3 - unable to power this up

Hi all,
I purchased this notebook about 9 months ago, an Xmas present for my daughter who has just finished Uni.  It had been stored away for a week, but when used again, it refuses to power up. The battery is charged, I have reset the battery via the battery reset pinhole on the back, also I have tried alt & f10, but this is not working as there is no screen or display.

I am wondering whether a new charge would fix this, or whether this should be under guarantee, as it was purchased from Amazon as new - SNID appears to be xxxxxxxxxxxx; I have also checked that there are not any obvious keys sticking. It could be that the hard drive is knackered, but I do not want to open the notebook in case this causes warranty issues.

Any suggestions would be very welcome as to whether there are any known issues that are worth looking at.

Thanks
Kevan

    Hi Kevan

You can attempt a battery reset if your battery is behaving abnormally, or your computer will not power on or off. This process will temporarily disconnect and then reconnect the internal battery. Use the instructions below to perform a battery reset.

    1. Unplug the AC power adapter.
    2. Press and hold the Power button down for 15 seconds. This will perform a software battery reset that may resolve the issue.
    3. If your system has a battery pinhole reset on the bottom, insert a small paperclip in the battery reset pinhole and hold the button down for 5 seconds.
Note: Not all models have a battery pinhole reset.
If this didn't Help you can try Contact Acer Hardware Support at, if its under warranty :-http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/

Thanks, this community forum was very useful in looking for sensible things to check. I returned it to Acer as it was under guarantee, and very happy with the service. They sent me packaging slip and it was collected by UPS for free.
It had a new motherboard and memory fitted; although all data and programs were lost, the laptop seems a lot better.
