I'm guessing you're wondering about the black tape holding the CR2032 battery in?

    Hi

To reset the BIOS by replacing the CMOS battery, follow these steps instead:

    1. Shutdown your computer
    2. Remove the power cord to make sure that your computer receives no power.
    3. Make sure you’re grounded. Static discharges can damage your computer.
    4. Find the battery on your motherboard

    5. Remove it. If the battery doesn’t move easily,
    6. Wait 5 to 10 minutes
    7. Put the battery back in
    8. Power on your computer.
**Please be careful When you Open CPU

okay...well, looks like a great deal of thought went into the design of that!  Well, if it was me, I'd be very careful getting the tape off to try not to pull any cables/connections.  Then after taking the button battery out for a bit, put it back in and use a nice small bit of gaffa tape to replace the bit that was removed.    Here's the thing, if i mess up, i might mess up greater than when i started (no idea about warranty if that happened but i reckon i'd void it).  That's what i'd do, but I'm not you.

no, dont touch the tape or battery. just remove the connector of the cable from the motherboard.
    reconnect after 5-10 minutes.

yeah its a bit hard. to prevent the connector from breaking from the motherboard, hold it with one hand, and with the other use a small screw driver to wiggle it out. use it on both the sides of the connector.

hang on. if you find it difficult to remove the connector, there is another method for discharging the cmos battery.

near your ram slots, there is a jumper called JCMOS1.  just short the 2 points for 30 seconds and it will reset the cmos.

    see pic for details.

see the pic i have posted. there you will see 2 copper points on the mainboard, labelled jcmos1.  just take a small screw driver and connect the two points (shorting) for 30 secs or so. it will clear the cmos.

another point that has come to me, since you have opened the back cover, disconnect the keyboard cable. it is the fattest ribbon cable. and then awitch on the laptop. this way you will know whether the keyboard is shorted or not and preventing the start of your machine.

you may connect any other external keyboard via usb also.

At everyone who is trying to post solutions for this...

    My model: G3-572
i am afraid nothing of that sort would work. I tried all these a few months ago when I had to reset my laptop locked up BIOS (due to some bios update):
    1. CMOS battery jumper
    2. Main battery
    3. Button near RAM
    4. CMOS pins
Tried 1 and 2 above leaving the laptop open for 24 hours and then shorted the above 4, but still could not get the BIOS pin to go away.

I personally feel Acer did a good job in making this robbery proof in this regard. The downside of this is to contact Acer for BIOS reset.

I may be wrong, and there might be a way out that I am not aware of, so please do feel free to correct me.

your issue could have been of bios password. resetting the bios will not change or reset the password.

the thread starter has spilled some liquid on the keyboard, due to which the laptop is not starting, thats the issue.

Shreyas__ Thats not hard to remove at all its pretty easy just pull it firmly or use tweezers instead (do not try to take the black tape off in any circumstances you would probably easily break the 2 contacts holding the battery than breaking the connector)  also any reason in particular why do you want/need to reset cmos settings ? please explain

Also do you understand that you will only reset the bios settings nothing else

CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) is a chip on the motherboard that contains BIOS configuration, date, time and other information that the computer needs during startup.
    The
CMOS battery supplies power to the CMOS chip, even when the computer is shut down)

Deejay_tech so the op spilled liquid on the keyboard (i havent seen him mention anything about it unless he opened another thread about it as everyone else does to confuse everyone) if the laptop its not starting after the spillage has nothing to do with the bios lol it means it short circuited some where probably the mobo its dead now if the spillage reached it dunno why hes trying to invent if that was the case he should had send it to warranty asap (of course they will not cover spillages he would have to pay for the replacement) if out of warranty better start to search for a donor mobo or in the best case take it to a repair shop to get a diagnostic of what was affected by the spillage dunno who told him that resetting the bios would fix any kind of short circuit because thats the same as asking for a miracle to happen

PS: electric devices and liquids do not go well together everyone should know that  :)

Shreyas__ if i were you i would start to look for a donor mobo you case doesnt seem to hopeful  as u stated in you other double thread (stick to one only or you wont get proper help by confusing everyone
https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/577022/my-predator-helios-300-is-not-turning-on-help-me-please#latest) you were cleaning it while switched on with a wet cloth you never in your life clean it while on neither with a wet cloth (its a laptop its not a toy) probably the edges with baby wipes and dry it straight away but as you did never pretty sure you short circuited the mobo as u said it switch down straight away not a good sign at all

As i already said if you want to spend some money with it without any guarantees take it to a repair shop to get the mobo diagnosed  (i dont have many hopes by what you said it happened) and pay for the work with very much luck its still fixable or start to search for a donor mobo straight away (this would be my best advice in spilling cases) even if you still had warranty it would cover it anyway and they would replace the mobo making you pay for it
