Predator G9-593 battery not charging, shuts down when unplugged

I was going to highjack another thread with this exact issue, but I know some places freak out over that kind of stuff. I'm willing to come back and update all of the other threads if we can get this solved.

My Predator G9-593 has been a problem since I first got it a little over a year ago. It frequently shuts down for the heck of it. It often freezes, so I have to use the power/reset button combo to turn it off and turn it back on. I think the last time that happened, it killed something as my battery has not been charging and when unplugged, it shuts down. I have done the supposed battery drain (power/reset), I've opened the back to ensure everything is secured, and I deleted the battery stuff in device manager, restarted and no change. Power has been set to adaptive, so I changed it to optimal to see if it did anything. No, so I switched back. I also ran an energy report but don't really know what I'm looking for. It says platformmobile, so that seems right. There is no portable/laptop power scheme that I can find, so that's a bust. I downloaded Acer Care Center and did a battery check. Now, I only ever use the battery when it automatically unplugs because the battery life was never indicative of how long it would stay on, but still, I'd love to be able to move across the room with it. Acer Care center says my battery is good. But just for giggles, here is the entire report you get when using the command prompt with some data deleted to allow the post.

Is there anything a rational human can do to fix this thing? It's stuck at 97% available (plugged in, not charging). And, no don't tell me to unplug it and press the power button until it turns off or whatever because as soon as I unplug it, it dies. That's not good for the computer, and since I paid $2k for this, and I want it to work. Help!!!!

CarissaP What is your battery wear percentage if you install battery bar pro or check it with hwinfo64 what wear do you get just wondering because you lost some mWh there 90,000 > 83,970 if not much you should be ok but if your wear its too much you battery might be faulty i have mine on AC 24/7 non stop since day 1 for 19 months now and i have 8.4% wear

Are those downloadable software? The battery never had the full 90, and was 87 in the first day I plugged it in. What does that measure, exactly? And why would that affect the noncharging or turning off when unplugged? I only ask because the acer care check said the battery was good, so isn't it good?

CarissaP measures the wear of your battery from the designed capacity and the actual capacity you have now if you say it never had full 90% since you got it that makes me think the battery was already faulty when you got it and i suspect you probably would have to send it to warranty for a battery replacement (i would asap)

Bummer because it's out of warranty. Do you know if local type computer guys can replace the battery? I hate the recent trend with laptops you can't self repair. That just makes me thunk they're poorly made to begin with and they want a captive customer reliant on the company for what will be necessary repairs theough no fault of the customer.

All that said though, i still don't understand why wear on the battery would affect the noncharging issue or the computer turning off when the plug comes dislodged.

CarissaP if its out or warranty you could probably buy a battery yourself and fit it if you think youre able to if not just get someone to fit it for you probably @Kev0806 would be the best for you to contact in order to get a new battery as acer doesnt provide parts out of warranty he is an Authorized Parts Partner and it might also be that the battery its somehow not properly connected as i said you can either take it to a repair shop to get it diagnosed first or just go for the battery replacement its up to you

PS:Also first of all before anything else check if the power kill switch in the ram compartment its properly pressed (as i suspect that switch kills the power from the battery itself causing these issues its a security feature to avoid short circuit on the mobo even if the battery is connected and you are disassembling it ) if in doubt add some layers of electrical tape to make sure its properly pressed the main issue of the battery not charging/shutdown might be in that switch it has to always be properly pressed and the compartment door screwed tight

CarissaP no need to just the ram compartment door (depending on your model) it should be accessible without disassembling it there a small switch in the mobo near the ram slots (also depending on the model i know in fact some Nitro 5 do not have it and some have it) if you dont have it you should see the space there of where it was supposed to be anyway

I've been into the panel and cannot see the ram, so I have to assume it's not visible on my model.

CarissaP you have to get the cover out and you will see a space/hole by the ram check there if you have some rally small switch that the cover is pressing when you put it back

Right. And there isnt one that I have been able to locate. If you spotted one in the video, I still missed it. In my machine I even looked for a deep hole in case it was not obvious, but saw nothing.

well there are some more steps you can try like uninstalling the acpi driver followed by a battery power drain and a bios setup defaults boot into windows let it reinstall the driver and see how it goes and lastly performing an acer stock recovery by formatting the drive completely to stock (it will delete everything so you should backup whatever you would need first) the laptop will be back to the first day you booted it the first time this is done by pressing ALT+F10 on boot and this usually needs to be done to rule out any software issues to make sure its really a hardware issue in this case a new battery
