Hello, I have the following problem, update the BIOS of my Acer E5-553-1786, but I had a problem and it could not be updated well and now it does not start, the ACER icon is not shown, it is like brick I have seen in some forums that there is a method of recovering the BIOS through a USB memory and the file ZABA.fd.
I did the procedure for the recovery of the bios:
1. Format the USB memory in FAT32 format
2. I put the file ZABA.fd in the USB memory
3. I turn on my laptop with FN + ESC, the power LED flashes

However nothing happens, in what I have read, they say that the ZABA.fd file must be renamed correctly so that the BIOS recovery can be done but I don't know how to get the correct name to continue the procedure.

Can you tell me if it is the right procedure?
Is there another method?
I need something?

  • Providing any type of unlocking here in the community is not allowed. Have you tried resetting the lithium battery? However, if the bootblock area has been corrupted, the recovery crisis procedure will not help you and you should send the notebook to the Acer service center in Mexico so they can rewrite the bios.

    watching this thread ....

personally i have had great success using a CH 341A usb chip programmer to flash bios.
it is cheap to buy (less than $8). and easy to use.
the hardest part is removal of bios chip from mainboard for programming.(but my friendly neighbourhood shop does it for me for free)

the programming itself takes 2-3 minutes.

watching if you get a easier solution.

and btw i dont think this is anything to do with "unlocking". this is how to recover from a failed bios flash.

  • In fact, the bios name for recovery is correct and the file should contain somewhere around 9mb. But this procedure cannot be published here in the community. Also, the recovery crisis procedure will only work if the bootblock area is intact. I suggest you take it to Acer service center so they can retrieve the bios.
