I went looking for the response time of my Helios 500 and could not find it. Does anyone know what the display's response time is for the Helios 500? I have a PG279Q that I use with my desktop computer and the response time is VERY low for an IPS, the Helios feels slower.

If it is truly 14ms like this review says, then that is REALLY sad and not great for FPS games.: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Predator-Helios-500-GTX-1070-i7-8750H-Laptop-Review.308084.0.html

That review by notebookcheck was the only place I could find the response times for this particular display. Keep in mind that this is an IPS panel, and the 14 ms gray to gray and 9 ms white to black response times are very good for a such a panel. The reviewer says so themselves. Also right below in the review, look at some of the leading laptops for comparison on their response times. The only ones with better response times are the ones with TN panels.

Also this is a 144 Hz refresh rate display. The refresh rate needs to be taken into consideration while comparing response times. I read an excellent article once, explaining all this but unfortunately now I cannot seem to find it.

No one to-date has complained any ghosting on this display with any game, so rest assured that this display will perform for gaming. The one huge problem with Helios 500 144 Hz panel is that it has a very poor contrast ratio, meaning that it cannot tell the difference between various shades of gray and black, all shades of grey tends to show as deep black on this display. People complain about low brightness in dark scenes, it is not low brightness, but low contrast that makes any scene shot in low light appear almost black. If they fix this contrast issue, this is actually an excellent display.

I'm pretty sensitive to blur and the Helios 500 definitely has blur. The old Apple display that I used to have had 14ms and it was almost unbearable. The only IPS that has been bearable for me so far is the PG279Q. I do notice it on the Helios 500, I guess that is why I asked... to confirm what I already knew. The source of the annoying blur.

IPS panels with faster response times are currently very expensive. The monitor you mentioned, PG279Q, is retailed at $699 in US, currently selling on Amazon for $579 in US. If Acer had put something of that quality in Helios 500, the base model would have costed over $2500 in US, instead of the $2000 it currently costs.

Also keep in mind that there is currently no set standard for measuring response times, each test uses slightly different terminologies. For example, the 14 ms grey to grey from notebookcheck is for the wave form to go from 50% grey to 80% grey. If they had used 50% grey to 50% grey the response time would have been different.

So the 4 ms grey to grey response times advertised for PG279Q can only be compared with the Helios display's 14 ms if you know what standard they used for the waveform rise and fall percentages.

Using the "eye test" it is obvious to me that it is slower. This is evident in the blurred movement. Again, I was here looking for hard data to confirm what I already know. However, apparently Acer did not provide that spec for a reason...
