Correct RAM for Nitro 5 17" 9th Gen (AN517-51-56YW)

ohfoxyohfoxy Posts: 5Member New User
Hello All,

I am feeling rather stupid at the moment, I have built a desktop from scratch so basic hardware concepts are not foreign to me, but I am having the hardest time understanding what the correct RAM to purchase for my particular laptop is. The laptop has 1 x 8GB stock, and I would like to purchase another 8GB stick to increase my total RAM to 16GB. I can simply add another stick to the existing one, and do not have to buy a pair of dual-channel, correct?  I installed CPU-Z, and found some links online that appear to be the correct modules, but I was trying to find such an item on Amazon as I have a gift card I would like to use, and I am not having any luck.

Would someone be so kind as to link me the correct module to purchase from Amazon, or confirm that they do not sell any such module?  And can anyone please educate me as to whether or not I am understanding the upgrade capabilities of the existing 8GB module?

Thank you very much in advance for your time. :)

    Hi,
Yes, you can add another 8GB module to the existing 8GB module to make 16GB, could you please tell us the model and specs of the current memory in your laptop, we need the speed of it, like 2133MHz, 2400MHz etc.
Normally, this model can take a DDR4 2400MHz module but as you want to add another module, you need to match the specs of your current module.
Suppose, if you have a 8GB 2400MHz module in your laptop, you can buy a 8GB of DDR4 2400MHz module from amazon and install.

Personally I would pay a little more and go for the Hynix that you already have, same brand and no guessing game. Sometimes mix and match causes problems
