Touchpad sporadic issure

I have an Acer W10 laptop. (Aspire E5-576G...) Approximately every 5 weeks or so, my touchpad suddenly becomes about 95% non-responsive. When I swipe on it, the cursor barely moves (maybe 1/8 inch to a full swipe). I end up plugging in a USB mouse. That works perfectly and if I restart the computer, all is fine for another month. I use my laptop 3-6 hours per day, so this strange touchpad behavior is not too common (otherwise it would be extremely annoying).

I have checked the touchpad settings and I see nothing unusual. I checked Task Manager and there is nothing using up much CPU or memory. I see no commonality in what I’m doing when the issue occurs.

So, any suggestions? I don’t even know what to look for.

    Hi @complier ,
    Try uninstalling and re-installing pointing device driver, and check whether the unit touch pad is working ; follow the below steps ;

    1. Click Start. ...
    2. Click Continue. ...
    3. In the list of device types, click the kind of device, and then locate the specific device that is not functioning.
    4. Right-click the device, and then click Properties.
    5. Click the Driver tab.
    6. Click Uninstall.
    7. Click OK.
    8. restart the computer the un-installed device will get updated automatically.
    Hit Accept if its useful :)

    The problem is that when I restart the computer, it will work anyway. So, I guess I'd have to wait a few months to see if the problem recurs.
