Can't upgrade to Windows 1903 / Intel RST / Predator G9-793

Microsoft is blocking users from updating to 1903 if they have Intel RTS RAID software installed, as my Predator laptop does. They demand you update the software, and when you do, directly from Intel's website, Microsoft still won't update and will throw up the same error.

I've spoken with Microsoft and Acer support for this issue, and neither has an answer besides reinstalling the OS, losing all your info, and basically starting everything over from scratch. Which I won't do for an OS update. Everything is up to date in my PC, drivers, chipsets, BIOS, and I can't update. Has anyone had this issue, and has anyone resolved it without killing everything?

Hi I have found fix working for me. The reason windows wont update is becowse it sees old version of the drive, you must go to drivers directory C:\Windows\System32\drivers find old version iastora.sys(thereis old date mine was 2016) and rename it to iastora_old.sys. After that restart the 1903 upgrade with the "fix" button.

What is the error being presented? Also, do you really need to install version 1903? If your notebook is not experiencing performance or stability issues, I suggest you do not upgrade to version 1903.

The Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver version 15.102.xxx (I believe) needs to be updated because it will not work with the "inbox storage driver iastors.sys" and needs to be updated. But when updated, from Intels website, to the most recent version, Microsoft is still tossing up the error saying it needs to be updated before upgrading to 1903. I don't HAVE to update, but I don't want to be stuck on 1803 forever either.

I suggest you update the other drivers with driverbooster to make sure all drivers are really up to date before installing version 1903: https://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php#

Have you tried installing version 15.9.6.1044? Microsoft says that version 15.5.2.1054 or later is compatible with Windows 10 Update 1903, but it is recommended that users install version 15.9.6.1044 or later.

Tried the Drive Booster, and rolled back the RST driver to ver. 15.9.6.1044. Neither resolved the issue.

Have you tried upgrading first to version 1809 and only then to version 1903? I suggest you back up your files first. Also, have you tried uninstalling the irst program and only after installing the latest version?

4KBuddz Windows 1903 its still too buggy ppl are rushing out to update to it i dunno why im not moving up from 1809 ever never had one single issue in 17months with updates disabled completely to avoid MS to screw up mi machine as they do with everyone else

(in fact win 7 its 100x better than win 10 for gaming and any other work if it wasnt the dx support drop limitations that's the only downside when ms is dropping probably the second best os they had so far and force everyone into win10 the best one to me was xp and i started on win 95) and my advice its exactly the same as Acer gave you because when windows updated screwed up your system and probably the only way to fix it its to go back to either acer stock recovery or reinstall windows over again this happened to many users who updated to 1903 not related with same issue but serious issues arised after ms forced the updates on everyone but again this is just me as you already stated you will not reset anything because its acer responsibility to get it fixed xxxxxxxxxxxxx( Edited by Acer- David)

Are you using Media Creation Tool to update after Intel RST Update? If using Update Assistant, delete/uninstall it completely. Then shutdown and start your PC and download Update Assistant again. Also keep only the power cord connected and disconnect other peripherals for a smoother upgrade.

So I had the same problem. I fixed it by finding the file stipulated under the more information under the error dialog on the update from Microsoft. The file the updater has an issue with is called "iaStorA.sys" I checked the information of the drivers of my Intel drives and saw that it was using "iaStorAC.sys" but that the older sys file was not listed. I would guess that at one point the drivers were using the older file and then updated to using the newer file without deleting the old one. No big deal until Windows updater looks specifically for that specific driver and discovers that the date and find that it is old, despite not being used anymore. I would think uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers would suffice but I was daring and just moved the old .sys file which I guessed was no longer in use to a different directory. Found the old file in the directory /windows/system32/drivers. Fixed the update issue and no detectable problems by removing the older iaStorA.sys file.

tl;dr If you are absolutely sure that you have upgraded your drivers (I suggest checking the driver details to be completely sure that this file is no longer being used (should be using iaStorAC.sys and iaStorAFS.sys instead of iaStorA.sys on the current version) move the /windows/system32/drivers/iaStorA.sys to a different directory.

I seems according to MS you have to update intel rst before you try to upgrade to 1903 and even after updated intel rst 1903 is not recognizing that the intel rst driver was already updated its a really buggy update from MS devs
