Acer Aspire 5600U HDMI In volume control - HOW??

I have just bought an ACER ASPIRE 5600U all in one. I got it because amongst other things it was one of the few All In Ones to have HDMI in so I can get rid of the separate monitor for the games console and run it all through the 5600U. However, I am a bit miffed at the lack of a dedicated manual and less than impressed with ACERS "Generic" one for all manual which has very little in the way of explanations about more in depth functionalities.

Specifically I need to find out if there is a way to control the volume when the ASpire is working as an HDMI IN monitor. I found that it was very loud when connected to the games console and I couldnt access any function to alter the volume. i tried pressing the really awkward switches on the right hand side of the screen (input select/up and down switches) but could only get the volume to be on (loud) or mute. I tried using the included remote control but that only seems to work for TV in or desktop uses (although it will switch the pc off or on when in HDMI in mode). Do I need to enable something or have I missed something along the way??

I should also add that in HDMI in mode, when I press the up/down switch on the Right hand side of the monitor (under the input select switch) all it changes is the brightness level. I'm guessing that the volume level should be accessible from somewhere in this menu but I'm lost as to where or how.

Hi,

I bought this PC for my son (aged 11).. The HDMI INPUT was a big factor in buying this for his PS3 console. Is there absolutely no way to change the volume settings? Its too high! Even the headphone socket does not work. It mutes, but no sound in headphones. Would external speakers enable you to reduce the sound. Surely there must be some way to reduce the volume.

I'm sure the volume controls and the headphone jack work in Windows, as this is a computer sytem.

Unfortunately, we do not offer any support for connecting game consoles or other third party peripherals.

How can you say this? Its your system that is sold with an HDMI in, so you must support it. Surely there is somewhere where you can set the volume. There must be a default setting somewhere!

Please can you help.. This purchase is turning out to be an expensive mistake. I need your help to address this.

There are no volume controls on the exterior of the system.

Ergo, when connecting a third party system that itself has no volume controls ... there's no way to control volume.

Again, we are unable to support any console gaming systems. We are only able to provide assistance with what we ship.

I am having this same issue and bought this particular computer because it had the HDMI Input capability. I believe not having the ability to control volume through your output device is a legitimate flaw in your system that should be addressed. Anyone connecting a device through the HDMI In port will have an expectation that they will be able to control the volume of the device since it is coming through the speakers on the computer. Is it reasonable that external speakers with an integrated volume control on them would solve this issue when connected to the head phone jack?

Problem with this suggestion is that the headphone jack does not work in hdmi input monitor mode!

A very poor purchase and extremly in the ACER support. Just washed their hands of it!

I am not disputing that it is a monitor. However, the Monitor comes with speakers which function as speakers, i.e there is an audio input to these via the HDMI cable. Therefore, there SHOULD be a way of controlling the VOLUME of these speakers via the Volume control function of the monitor.

My previous PC came with a Monitor with speakers and whilst an HDMI input was connected it WAS possible to adjust the volume using the installed volume control buttons on the monitor. You may ask why I changed my old PC for this one, that is exactly what I am asking myself now!.............
