Just got my helios 300. 15inch i5 with rtx2060 and 16gb ram
Im a bit annoyed that the pc fans are a tad bit to loud when the pc is just standing there idle.  might be a problem as Im gonna use it for school and might be disturbing during exams.
Iv tweaked around in predator sense program but when adjusting the fan speed manually in the lower 1\3 of the wheel the software cant adjust the speed. Kinda stupid to have a "manual" fan speed control if only 2/3rds of the wheel work. and even if i lock the speed it still will speed up if i watch a youtube video or something.

is the predator sense software just *****?  Iv tried reinstalling it 2 times and updated BIOS, Nvidia card, Windows.

  • What is the model of your notebook? ExamplePH315-52-73XY.
About fans, it's normal for them to be active even when the processor and gpu are idle.

Tegulf if the fans are spinning on high rpm that means you are having thermal issues or just high temps i suggest you to optimize windows and undervolt and if still needed repaste you cant reduce the fans rpm when youre hitting high temps they automatically controlled by the bios according to your temps they will reduce or increase to not damage you cpu/gpu/mobo neither crash while its gets too hot but it might crash if you hit the max Tj

PS: you stated << Im gonna use it for school and might be disturbing during exams>> i wouldnt recommend using a gaming laptop for school at all especially during exams they will not allow you to use it for sure especially if you are having high temps the fans will always be on high rmp's all gaming laptops perform the same way regarding the fan noise the temps dictate the speed of the fans and theres nothing anyone can do about it the only option its to reduce the temps as much low as possible i think you didnt thought this one through if its to use at school i would had bought a normal laptop instead anyway its just my opinion and dont blame it on the laptop its performing the way it was design to nothing wrong with it its up to you to make sure you reduce the temps yourself i also suspect by your description you might have a bad repaste

I just dont see why the pc need to have the fans this loud when its sitting at about 30celsius. Idle.  Its working really hard to be as cool as possible. And i think it should just tolerate some heat intill a certain treshold then ramp up fan speed.
The pc is the minimum required spec for my class so i need a gaming computer to hit the specs.

Tegulf Have you tried to perform a battery power drain by disconnecting it from AC and press/hold the battery switch for 30s let it rest for 2/3h and then boot into bios and reset setup to defaults to see if the issue persists also you didnt mentioned above anywhere your temps so i assumed they were high the fans only speed up when the temps go to 65+ anything under they both stay at about 2300/2400 and in fact under 42 they will switch off for awhile because the temps are so low so youre saying the temps on your laptop are 30 ??? i find that really hard to believe it cant be so low especially for a 2060 and 9th gen cpu variant could u post some screens of your PS to confirm those temps and cpu usage please i have 39/45 idle and what is your cpu usage while idle and i ask again as @egydiocoelho already asked what is your exact model

Will post when i get home from work :)
  • He lives in Svortland @xapim. There, the temperature is usually very low and that's why I think the notebook is at 30ºC. However, when the notebook reaches this temperature, the fans should turn off as you said earlier. It would be interesting for him to inform the fans' rotation level according to the internal temperature of the notebook.

Hi I'm back, been away the last couple of days.   Here is fan speed and temp at absolute idle.  as soon as i open up browser or paint the fans ramps up and down.  gup fan from 2460 to about 2700.   Iv had 2 laptops before and they were both completly silent when just browsing the web and such.
Is it just my expectations that are wrong?  I havent had a gaming laptop in maybe 6-7 years. and that was a lot thicker and dubble the weight as this helios 300. but in turn really silent. the fans were bigger aswell so it had a "deeper" sound to the fans.  The helios 300 is much higher pitch sound so it just makes it more irritating.

Im just wondering if the rpm numbers and temps are normal and that the fan sound is normal aswell.    I see that i should go less power if i want completly silent for school but im starting engineering and i need these specs on my laptop.  Ill just have to cross my fingers that my classmates got loud fans aswell.

  • I don't see any abnormalities either with temperature or fan speed. Have you checked if this also occurs when putting the notebook in balanced mode?

Tegulf As @egydiocoelho stated theres nothing wrong with your fans thats is the correct speed when on idle (or close to) and as far as i can say about your classmates i suggest you offer them some earplugs as a gift  just in case :) because the beast will roar
