Hi everyone,

This is my first post so please take it easy on me. About a month ago I bought an Acer Helio 300 (PH315 - 51) with i7-8750H CPU and a nvidia 1060 gpu. I knew going in that the temps could get hot while gaming but this was pretty crazy, spiking the CPU with older games like Borderlands 2 into the low 90s and GPU into the low 80s. I did lots of research in these forums and I first tried undervolting which had some small effects but nothing substantial. This prompted me to contact Acer and honestly the guy didn't seem to have any idea what he was talking about, as when I mentioned thermal repasting he didn't even know what that was. Well many people on this forum seemed to yield amazing results when repasting but I was too scared to do it myself as I'm a college student with none of the proper tools and I didn't want to brick my new computer. So I took it to a shop that had good reviews and had them take care of it for me. Well they provided a pretty terrible customer experience and under quoted me quite heavily but I was just happy it was done.

Well now that I have it back my CPU seems to be just as hot, if not a couple degrees hotter, while my GPU doesn't hardly get above 65 C. When gaming my CPU is hitting 88-90 despite these components being right next to each other. So did they botch the thermal paste application? Or is something wrong with my computer? It seems insane that these components are right next to each other but have an over 20 degrees C difference.

Any help or guidance is appreciated!

Seth19 well it seems to me they have done a bad repaste if i were you i would go there again and demand a proper repaste because whoever did it didnt did it properly and i would probably buy some kryonaut or similar and get them to use it its definitely a bad repaste hope you get it sorted and not charged again personally i only trust myself to do that kind of work its not had and if done properly you will see the results for ex after i repasted/upgraded mine in the first week i got it the temps came down 25+ and still hanging on 15 months after :)

Well after many arguments with the shop they won't redo the paste without some form of payment so I'm just going to do it myself. Do you have any recommendations for a specific tutorial? I have found several and they all do it a little differently. And also any product recommendations would be great. Thanks for the reply!

Seth19 they refuse to repaste it ? (its under warranty and its covered they dont have the right to refuse/ask for payment what they could say was that they would send it to the acer repair center for repaste but asking for money thats just robbery) what about Acer support the issue here is that if you have to break any warranty seals while opening it you will void your warranty but if you dont youre ok i recommend kryonaut or similar clean the heatsink/cpu/gpu diodes properly with sopropyl alcohol 99% or 100% if u can get your hands on it tough 70 should be ok but the more pure the better with cotton buds (this is the way i do it but u can use something else) apply thermal paste in the cpu/gpu diodes (spreading method its the best if you buy kryonaut it will have an applicator to spread it and most thermal pastes bring something to spread it) just a thin layer to cover the diodes completely its enough, too much paste its bad and too less also bad, has to be the exact amount be careful disassembling the heatsink to not damage any thermal pads or else you will have to buy them and replace them if they arent damaged you dont need to replace them if they are you do have to and sometimes they are mixed 1mm, 1.5mm dont forget to clean the fans and exit airflow before you repaste i would do it first before cleaning the diodes ad the heatsink hope this helps :)

This is the best guide you can get from @Red-Sand and really fresh released yesterday
