My graphics card is a GTX 1060 6GB but I only have 3GB of graphic memory available. Is this normal?

My laptop is an Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop PC, 15.6" FHD IPS w/ 144Hz Refresh, Intel i7-8750H, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB DDR4, 256GB NVMe SSD, Aeroblade Metal Fans PH315-51-78NP which I purchased a while back on Amazon and I've had no problems with game performance so far, but recently I noticed when checking the settings of Max Payne 3 and Total War: Rome 2 that my available video memory is only 3072 MB, half of what it should be. I've included a screenshot of Max Payne 3 settings and GPU-Z details. Thank you all in advance

    Good afternoon Han221 !

Is your device properly configured for high performance in all options (power, WIndows, Nvidia, battery, etc)?

Han221 well gpu-z shows the correct amount of gpu ram (nothing wrong here) so i would say the issue its with the games themselves have you tried other games (i would recommend latest games) because  those games are 5/6 years old its possible that by the time they came out there werent gpus with 6gb ram yet so they would only recognize the max ram that the gpus had at that time as i said this is a game issue nothing to do with the laptop for ex ( same as windows xp couldnt recognize more that 4gb ram even if you had more only with a special patch you would get all ram recognized by the system i managed to get all my 16gb recognized with my 7745G still working today) so as i said its definitely a game support itself try to search for any possible game patches that might fix the issue

Xapim, I think you're right. I just tried playing Civilization VI in the biggest map with all the civs and it was using 4GB right at the start of the game. Thanks for your help
