What a nice first thread to create.

But Hi everyone!

So I got this issue where I'm not too sure on how to solve it,
I've recently got myself a new palmrest / keyboard as a replacement after the usual wear and tear
and since I really wanted a backlit keyboard so I decided to upgrade/replace this part, everything went well,
I successfully transferred the motherboard and the components to the other palmrest
And I got in my installed operating system (My System is running on Pop!_OS - 19.04 (Similar to regular Ubuntu 19.04 except using Systemd-boot instead of grub for the bootloader)
using UEFI and Safeboot (Because I managed to set up all of that correctly))

Though, I noticed something weird and I had a few issues. and I'll list them here.
  • Usually, the ACER logo appears at POST (before boot), that didn't happen to be the case anymore.
  •  My system wouldn't get into BIOS (F2) neither Boot Device Selection (F12).
  • Attempting to boot into them would just simply lock the computer on a blank screen,
and at worst the system wouldn't boot after that again
(except if I reset the battery/CMOS with the small pinhole on the bottom plate.)
  • I wasn't able to boot into my secondary OS installed on my second drive (Self Installed SSD on SATA0).

I think the UEFI Firmware got messed up while I transferred the motherboard and unplugged the CMOS battery while doing so...

Since I'm not on Windows and Acer doesn't supply driver and bios packages other than for Windows,
I can't install a new BIOS/Firmware, and since I don't really have a way to boot into an external device like a USB or even my second drive.
I'm kind of stuck.

Any ideas on how to fix my firmware myself and if it is even possible?

  • Have you checked that the problem persists when you install the palm rest and the keyboard that came installed when you bought the notebook?

No, I have not, though that would be weird because the only hardware that is actually replaced is the keyboard.

I'll try and see if it has the same behavior on the old hardware too.

I'll post a follow up after I tried that.
