How to flash and older version of Bios from before 1.14 on Acer Predator 17 G9-793

Hello all,

I recently installed the Bios version of 1.14 and it is giving me some issues. I need to re-flash an older version so that I can troubleshoot further the issues I am currently experiencing. Originally, what had happened, was that my Bluetooth capability in my Acer Predator 17 G9-793 just disappeared. When I went to change the blue-tooth support setting to automatic, I got a BSOD that sent my Laptop into a restart loop that eventually deleted the OS (windows 10 Home 64x). I reinstalled the OS using a bootable USB with windows installation media. However, since then, the laptop has been crashing on all games that I play no matter what the settings. The errors are not consistent, among a few are Kernal related issues, IQRL driver issues, and mini-dump error BSOD. I cant seem to find a trend in the errors I am receiving except one thing, i never had any of these problems until updating to Bios 1.14. I need help and Im at a loss on how to move forward. Any help would be awesome.

If you dindt had any issues before why did you updated then ??? the bios shouldnt be updated if there are no issues

I updated the Bios on a reccomendation from the Acer Support Center against Specter and Microcode attacks, which was why 1.14 was released. however, like I said. It is appearing to be a mistake.

This is what I'm Talking about. No matter what I do these devices refuse to work properly. I've run SFC, DISM, CHKDSK, and gone through all the steps, I've reinstalled windows several times, and to no avail. It just wont work. The system will function normally unless i play a game or do something taxing on the system. then it will crash.

Taeleous i dont have the same model as you but on firmware i just seem to have system firmware dont have anything else are you sure that those 2 were there before you updated your bios ? just wondering anyway because i dunno the specs of the exact hardware of your model

and yes there is a way to force flash older bios by editing the settings file where it checks for the version and when you reinstalled windows was it a fresh install or just keeping your files ?

I've got a G9-793 and don't have those. The first is a driver related to Android devices and the second, I believe, is a Microsoft driver related to tablets. I'm guessing you will need to download/reinstall those drivers yourself.

@Phoenix1966 thats what i was thinking that those are external devices nothing to do with the laptop hardware itself thanks for the clarification

so Taeleous i would just remove those completely and then scan for hardware changes to see if they pop in again in again (well you should know what devices have you used in the laptop) and reinstall the drivers for them as @Phoenix1966 suggested and i dont think your bsods issue have anything to do with your bios updates get bluescreenviewer and check the errors and what is crashing i would probably suspect its a driver but only you can figure out what it is

PS:for those drivers to show up there you would have to have a huawei phone and probably a surface tablet and just because its under firmware doesnt mean its firmware drivers windows sometimes doesnt recognize the devices properly into the correct place until you install the proper drivers like for ex ethernet devices showing up installed as audio devices this happens a lot and sometimes you even have to find the driver itself manually and force it to install because windows wont recognize it automatically so you you would need to know exactly what you a re doing and where to look for this remembers me the old win95/98 times (good times)

Those 2 devices were not there prior to me installing a newer version of the bios. I ended up disabling them because they are causing more system instability. I will Post my computers specifications for you.

I am almost for sure it was the Bios Update that is causing the crashes, how do I roll back the Bios? Ohh, also, no it was a fresh install didnt save anything. Also to mention, in still getting BSOD errors frequently upon crashing.

Check with bluescreen viewer the exact error when it crashes and why its normal to have some warnings on event viewer but not that many also downgrading bios (if you manage to find and override the settings to do it) its not advisable you might brick the laptop for good doing it its even more risky than upgrading

@Taeleous, Again, I have the exact same model as you. I upgraded my bios, per Acer support, to 1.14 last year. Flashing the bios did not add either of those two drivers to my laptop. I cannot believe that, since we both would have gotten the version uploaded in April of last year, yours would include something that mine did not.

Like @xapim suggested, check for the exact error. I also agree that if you manage to find an earlier bios, you will probably brick your laptop trying to roll back.

I did some testing and I figured out the BSOD crashing errors were a result of my CPU overheating, i went into my laptop and replaced the stock thermal paste on the GPU and CPU. everything appears to be functioning normally for now. I will keep you in the loop if anything happens. Thanks for your suggestions and help with everything up to this point.
