What is the cause of only cpu fan working and no beeping sounds ?

I have a acer aspire desktop m1640.when I power on my desktop only my cpu fan is working and there is no beeping sounds.i tried to reseat the ram and I tried a different hard drive but still same problem.i also tried to use a different power supply unit but still the same problem...what else can I try?...or is it a bad motherboard..

    Yes, if you have access to a replacement processor (needs to be the same generation and socket type) then you can verify it's the motherboard, unless i's both...

    If the reset fails to help then it's as you suspect, a faulty motherboard. The CPU fan tells you the power up circuit for the power is working, the lack of beeps shows that POST is not executing, so the BIOS is not starting to load. Either processor completely failed or the motherboard has gone to computer heaven.

    @billsey thanks for the input, so what you saying I should try another cpu and see if it works,if that does not work then it means mother is fried.....i don't think there would be any other solution besides replacing the motherboard....is that a wise idea...
  • The fact that the desktop is not displaying image, can also characterize some problem in ram! Ideally, you test each component of the computer individually!
