Hi guys, I have an old Acer v3-571g with i7-3632qm and 2 video cards, one is Intel HD4000 and another is Nvidia GeForce GT 630M.
Recently I bought an 27 '' Philips 276E8VJSB 4K Ultra HD monitor and I want to use it at maximum resolution but unfortunately the Intel HD4000 max resolution is 1920x1200 at 60 Hz. From Nvidia specs I found that GT 630M can run Up to 2048x1536 (www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-630m/specifications

Now my question is, how can I force entire system to use only nvidia card? (Because 2K is better than 1920x1200...)
I tried using device manager to disable Intel card but after restart I got a strange resolution 640xsomething and no other higher.
From bios I don't have any option to disable intel card.
It is possible to get 2K resolution using VGA from laptop to monitor? now is on HDMI. On Nvidia website at specs is:
Display Support:
Up to 2560x1600Maximum Digital Resolution
Up to 2048x1536Maximum VGA Resolution
Yes HDCP
Yes HDMI

Is there any other sollution / device which will help me to achieve the 4k resolution ?

Thanks.

    Good night Silviu_25 !

In fact, the main card of your equipment is Intel HD Graphics and not Nvidia.
This is because it is not possible to completely disable Intel since it is integrated into the processor.
NVidia functions as a dedicated GPU that only activates when the system needs higher performance and when the device is using high performance Windows power and connected to the power outlet.
That is, the connection bridge is Intel.
So the question would not be which of them to use but rather which final resolution of output would support the HDMi connection of this model, which by the service manual is from 1920x1080p to 60Hz version 1.4a

Mine is a different model Acer laptop so this may or may not work for you. Go into the Nvidia Control Panel and select "Manage 3D settings" in the left pane. Then in the right pane, in the "Global settings" tab, in the "preferred graphics processor" dropdown; select "High performance Nvidia processor".
This forces the dedicated GPU for all applications.
    Hope this helps.

Even configuring the dedicated GPU to be the primary, the HDMI connection will still be the outlet bottleneck for the final resolution.

First I want to thank you for reply.
After some more digging on internet, I found a way to create some custom resolutions using the CustomModeApp.exe.
    now I'm running on 3200x1800 35Hz on CVT-RB and I can achieve also 2560x1440 55Hz on
    CVT-RB.
Not shure how safe is 35Hz for eye health, but  yes using HDMI you are limited only to maximum pixel clock of the video card.
I'm sure that if this laptop had displayport we could get real 4k 3840 x 2160 on 40 ~ 60Hz. But still I do not feel the need to change it because it is very powerful for me.

Actually with DP you would reach the resolutions and frame rate you initially wanted.
Then accept the answer to mark as resolved and help others in the ofrum!
