System is VN7-793G. Windows 10 shows plugged in but it won't charge, battery is down to 0%. Its only about a year old.
I've tried everything I can find: reset the battery, unplugged battery, removed/reinstalled battery driver, reset bios to defaults, different power outlet, update windows, etc. There is a newer bios update available but it won't let me install it while the battery is at 0%. I'm out of ideas of what to try, anyone have any ideas?
Current bios version 1.06

Your charger seems OK if you can boot plugged in. Your battery is suspect. Go to the elevated command prompt.  Enter 'powercfg /batteryreport'. Then return to the desktop. Open file explorer. Then search for' battery-report.html' in the c:\windows\system32\ sub-folder. Double-click to open it in the browser. Compare design capacity with full charge capacity. Post screenshot if possible. Open Device Manager. Click 'batteries' folder. Uninstall ALL the battery drivers. Don't reinstall anything. Exit. Reboot. Jack E/NJ

    Good afternoon dhenion !

    Perform the following procedures:

    CALIBRATION AND BATTERY RESET

First, disable Quick Start in the power options and disconnect the notebook from the power outlet.

    BATTERY CONTROLLER RESET
Access the device manager and look for the "acpi-compatible control method battery driver" and "Microsoft AC Adapter" and give it up.
Then restart the notebook for Windows to reinstall and remove any errors.

    httpsimagesdrivereasycomwp-contentuploads201811img_5bfe7020cb7efjpg

    Process to reset the battery

        Disconnect the power adapter.
Locate the hole to reset the battery in the bottom of the computer.
He inserted a small clip into the hole. Hold the reset button for 05 seconds.
Let the computer rest for 5 minutes without power.
Plug in the power adapter and turn on the system.

    External Battery Pack

If your notebook has an external battery, proceed as follows:
1- Unplug the appliance from the mains and then disconnect the battery.
2- Press the power button for thirty seconds, so that the static power is dissipated.
3 - Replace the battery and turn the unit on.

    Process for calibrating the battery

For this, you must turn off the device and give a 100% charge.
Then unplug and use the battery until the battery runs out.
    Reload it as before.
Repeat the process 3 times so that all cells are fully calibrated.

    Power Outage Button

The interrupt button not being pressed correctly may generate this problem.

There is a power interrupt button:

If it is not pressed down or the case is misaligned, errors may occur.
Check the same and use something like a layer of insulation tape to force and press this button correctly.

On the cover there is a projection that must press the button.
Use electrical tape or something to force more pressure on this button.

Thank you - I've tried all these except the power interrupt button - if that was not pressed would the system take wall power but not charge? I'm not clear what that button does.

If the button is not pressed properly it stops the power to the device in the battery and in some cases can prevent it from being charged.

I checked the power interrupt switch and it is properly pressed - still no difference, plugged in but not charging. What else can I try?

In this case, we should start thinking about hardware issues such as:
    Test another charger,
    Test another battery;
Check the motherboard power plug connector

As far as I can tell the motherboard connector is ok. I don't have a spare charger or battery so will have to buy to try it - which do you think is more likely that I should try first?

I had another laptop once with the same problem and even though the system could run on the charger but not charge, it did end up being the charger.

Anyway, I ran that command - shows both the design capacity and full charge capacity as -1mWh, so that's not good....

Looking at the battery capacity history - the numbers seem normal until about May 22nd where the capacities are listed as -1,552,599,273mWh, and after that its -1mWh.

So I assume all that points to the battery as the problem?

Yep. Google 'vn7-793g' and 'battery' for vendors. About $40. Jack E/NJ

Ordered a battery, will post an update here once it arrives and I test it out. Thanks.

Good luck. You might check Control Panel for an automatic restore point on or immediately before 5/22 to see if it might be related to an update. I doubt it though. Looks like the battery's internal controller board failed. Jack E/NJ

Installed new battery - seems ok now, it's charging.  So that's good - but a little disappointed the battery died on a relatively still new computer. Thanks to everyone for your help.

Well, as long as it's just a little. The laptop itself coulda been a lemon too. :o   Jack E/NJ
